I started taking my jacket off after coming back to work after the pandemic and having my own room in the office.
Recently, I got a new roommate who noticed and asked about my arm, and I just told the truth that I used to cut myself. It's ironic because just a few weeks ago I was feeling distressed about not being able to talk about it with anyone, and just like that, I was able to talk about it with this person I just met, though under the premise that I don't do anymore, which is kind of true. I do wonder how obvious it is, since most people don't seem to notice, including my family. Of course there could also be the factor of choosing not to see, or feeling that it's awkward to comment on or ask about. I was just wondering if anyone else is like me and stopped caring about hiding it. Or if anyone saw something like that with someone else and how it made you feel. __________________ *for those wondering, my username is pronounced as it is spelled: bee-why-ef-en-vee-why. |

I stopped caring about it. Last time I cut myself was a suicide attempt in January, and being winter I was in long sleeves anyways, but when it started warming up, I did not give a fcck. Nothing looked fresh by then anyways. I have a feeling if I relapsed today, I'd try and hide that though.

I have multiple cuts and a burn that spells out null on my fore arm. I don’t hide them and I don’t talk about them. They are decades old but quite prominent. If someone asks I say I don’t talk about it. People have stoped asking and it’s just part of me.

I never self-harmed and, except for being deployed in the Army and having surgeries, never had to worry about this problem. I only took notice of this thread because of its subject matter. I am going to link a song here, which, for the style of music, it is. Well, it is rather beautiful. It is acceptable to do so, and I don't remember the forum rules saying otherwise. Just trying to share something good for a difficult topic.

I stopped hiding my scars when I began work as a rehab. counselor. I was honest when and if the person asking about them was being sincere. If I felt it was just for the sake of gossip, I lied and said I had a hella bad carpal tunnel. 😉
