Because you are worth more than hurting than your body. It doesn't fix the pain, it masks it with other pain. You can do it, maybe get up and walk around, go outside and feel the sunshine or the cool breeze or the rain (whatever weather your getting, let it wash over you). You are worth more than cutting. That's why.

PurpleButterfly,

Why not? Many reasons. One: You are too valueable to be treated badly. Two: It is wrong to mistreat your self, it makes a bad habit inside. Three: it doesn't cure, it just avoids the real need for help and relief. Four: It is only temporary, but the scars are a permanent reminder of a time you choose to mistreat yourself, when you feel better there is a negative reminder. Five: It makes it harder for other people to see beyond your scars to the valueable, unique person you are. There may be times they will treat you as less instead of more based on scars - it may not be right, but it does happen that way. Six: It hurts the people who care for you.

I speak from experience and it has been 15 years since I cut, though the scars are still there. I am sometimes still tempted to cut, but when that happens I reach out for help. People here are supportive, reach out for help, hope!
