March 1st is Self Injury Awareness Day

How can you help raise awareness of self-injury?

It's actually pretty easy to help raise awareness by providing accurate information about the nature of self-injury.

* Pick out some hospitals, schools, crisis lines, and other places in your community who would be good targets for information.

* Download the SI fact sheet, bill of rights, quotes, strategies for stopping, and official NSIAD documents HERE!

* Educate your friends about SI

* Wear <font color="orange"> ORANGE!!! </font> Today is... S.I.A.D !!!

I have read:

</font><blockquote><div id="quote"><font class="small">Quote:</font>
An orange and white ribbon is for concerned parties (friends, family, and what nots)

A red and black ribbon is for past/current survivors.

</div></font></blockquote><font class="post">

(http://teenforums.studentcenter.org/...c.php?t=121223)

I haven't seen any ribbons for sale though. Perhaps they are sold in the U.S?

http://www.lifesigns.org.uk/ has quite a lot of good info on SI, and a few distraction techniques as well.

There's also http://www.palace.net/~llama/psych/injury.html which has a lot of info on SI, including how to treat wounds.

Thats cool that there is a day to raise awareness. I never herd about it before. Good Luck to all those trying to help those in need of this information.

I like your bracelet, Katt. Thanks for this thread. I knew about S.I.A.D., but didn't know about wearing orange. Orange isn't my favorite color, so I only have one orange shirt. I'm wearing it though, and a necklace I have with orange beads. I'm also armed with SI information, that I don't dare give out to anybody because it's probably best for people not to know that about me, and I wouldn't be able to stop myself from telling them that it is about me. I can't believe it, but I am actually considering becoming a recovering SIer too. 13 days.
