"A.A.A.D.D." - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder

This is how it goes: I decide to wash the car; I start toward the garage and notice the mail on the table. OK, I'm going to wash the car. But first I'm going to go through the mail. I lay the car keys down on the desk, discard the junk mail and I notice the trash can is full. OK, I'll just put the bills on my desk and take the trash can out, but since I'm going to be near the mailbox anyway, I'll pay these few bills first. Now, where is my checkbook? Oops, there's only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk. Oh, there's the coke I was drinking. I'm going to look for those checks. But first I need to put my coke further away from the computer, or maybe I'll pop it into the fridge to keep it cold for a while. I head towards the kitchen and my flowers catch my eye. They need some water. I set the coke on the counter and uh oh! There are my glasses. I was looking for them all morning! I'd better put them away first. I fill a container with water and head for the flowerpots - -

Aaaaaagh! Someone left the TV remote in the kitchen. We will never think to look in the kitchen tonight when we want to watch television, so I'd better put it back in the family room where it belongs. I splash some water into the pots and onto the floor, I throw the remote onto a soft cushion on the sofa and I head back down the hall trying to figure out what it was I was going to do? End of Day: The car isn't washed, the bills are unpaid, the coke is sitting on the kitchen counter, the flowers are half watered, the checkbook still only has one check in it and I can't seem to find my car keys! When I try to figure out how come nothing got done today, I'm baffled because I KNOW I WAS BUSY ALL DAY LONG!!! I realize this is a serious condition and I WILL get help, but FIRST I think I'll check my e-mail...

LOL.....LizardLady.....You just described me! I actually have been diagnosed with ADHD 10 months ago and I am 57. I do these things. It is maddening. I am working on getting the right meds for it. It is a trial and error process and it is frustrating. I hope that you do ask for help if you need to.

Wondering what you are doing right now.....LOL.....

Thanks for a good laugh lizardlady. I certainly can relate. I've quit looking for lost items unless I must have them right away - they eventually turn up and sometimes in the most unusual places.

Little Lulu, my all time weirdest one was finding the TV remote in a box of cereal!
Thanks for this!

Sideblinded, the original post was a joke I copied from another site. I thought it fit here.

I have fibro. Part of it is "fibro fog." The description above really could be me on a "foggy" day.

No fibro here but other than that I can relate. Oh another thing I do is try to improve efficiency by this, this, and this, while on the way to do that. Doesn't work out as planned usually
Thanks for this!

The efficiency thing doesn't work for me anymore, either. When I plan to do this, this, and this, while on the way to do that, I forget what that was by the time I get to it!

Hehe, I forget what the second this was before I finish the first one. I'm likely to forget that there was a that to begin with.

I shouldn't be laughing as these things happen to me too. The worse for me was finding the milk in the bathroom! I find things in the refrigerator all the time.

George, I do the efficiency thing too. I'm taking x into the next room...might as well take y and z along and drop them off where they belong. I end up putting x where z belongs, y where x belongs and z could be anyplace.

We returned after being away for three months and found several leftover pizza slices in the oven ... and no, we didn't eat them!

LizardLady, that description is so like me. I also have ADHD. Diagnosed in my late 40's. It is funny to read it, but not funny to live it.
