Okay, I've finally arrived. Don't have a lot of time to post very often but I thought I would share the following.....
Because of being on SSDI, I get a whopping $16.00 per month in food stamps. YAY ME!!! Well, I was in the office the other day and was told, "Oh, you are now 60, that means you qualify for commodity foods as a senior citizen." Please don't get me wrong, I'll take all the help I can get but really? A senior citizen??? No freakin' way!!! ![]() So tell me my friends, how did you feel the first time you qualified for old age benefits? I say that with all the love in my heart. ![]() ![]() |

The Skeezyks first got on Medicare... then Social Security. Didn't really think too much about it. It just was what it was. I recall my father, years ago, saying that although his body was aging, "inside" he didn't feel any different than he ever had. Personally, I feel different... & not in a good way...

Who knew that old age could be so much fun?????
![]() ![]() ![]() And here I thought that when I reached this age that life would be great, quieter and just all around more peaceful. What the hell was I thinking??? |

I have more pain physically, emotionally, and struggle more in my relationships than I did when I was younger, braver, and stronger.

At least for me, it seems the older and more sore I get and the more mental confusion I get, the one thing I do more of than in my younger days is to be thankful for all that I DO have. I used to be grumpy and witchy in my younger days, always wanting or expecting more than I was able to get or even work for. I'm so glad those days are gone, and in reality, I would rather hurt than be selfish and angry. At least I know I'm alive and sorta kicking...lol.
But dang, there are those days when I really LOVE getting older *sigh* ![]() |

The first time I was asked if I wanted to use my senior discount I was 54. Ouch. I was so shocked I went home dyed my hair, did a facial and felt like crying. Now a yr later it doesn't bother me so much.

It doesn't matter in the short term. If you feel good at a certain age than you are fortunate.
I don't have any major physical problems and for that I am grateful. However, I have been depressed about having so little time left and having to give up on certain dreams. As well, things such as finances are getting harder. Discounts don't mean anything except that they are discounts and I really like any and all of them. I really don't understand when older people say they feel like they are "18" on the inside. At 18 I was a mere baby. I certainly don't feel like that inside at all. I feel as old as the earth. And that seems appropriate.

I definitely don't like being called 'deary' by some upstart nurse or talked down to like a two year old. Next, I'll have 'them' shouting in my ears like I'm deaf! I hate this age .. not only in my years but the way life and society is now.

I keep forgetting to ask for a senior discount in stores and stuff. Silly me. While my body feels 85, my mind ain't there yet! Or maybe it is and I just don't remember it?

At almost 62, inside I feel the same, but my body is sure acting old. When I was in the hospital awhile back a "baby" intern said I was in the "golden years of my life." Did I let her have it about that!
![]() And, yeah, I'm getting all the discounts I can. When I'm 62 I'll get a discount at the Salvation Army. ![]() |

I ignored the discounts for a while...but now I am using some and looking forward to more (can't believe I am saying this)---but the train discount is great, and I have a lifetime pass to National Parks and other lands for all of ten dollars, and my favorite thrift shop is half price on Tuesdays...(so I got a perfect full length originally pricey raincoat, three lovely shirts, two pairs of pants, and a great winter vest for all of $6,00 last week)---I am 64 and in good physical health....as long as my health holds, I am glad for the discounts....especially for travel and intend to seek out other "senior discounts"...
now, if I can just get my mind to settle down a bit more.......and make good use of whatever time and benefits I have left....

I, too, avoided asking for discounts but now my pride is gone and I admit to being a senior citizen. Now I love getting discounts especially at the movies.
I used to say I felt like I I was 16 but now I'm really feeling my age, which is 64. It's so discouraging.

I avoid anything and everything branded "AARP" because they had begun spamming my mailbox (wasting someone's money) way too early, but I now get a little extra attention and consideration from people who might never have even noticed me if we had been the same age in years past.

I do avoid AARP as they began a deluge years ago, and I think they have been way too cozy with insurance companies etal...so I am not a member...and use none of their "stuff"
