I enjoy watching the British mystery programs that are telecast on our local public television station. One of these has been a series titled "Shetland". It centers around a police detective called Jimmy Perez. In one segment Perez & his team are investigating the death of a young man called Robbie. Robbie, they discover, worked at a nursing home. And, along the way, Perez visits the home to see what he can learn about the young man. During his conversation with the woman in charge, she mentions that Robbie would sit with the residents of the home, & talk with them while holding their hand. And the woman adds that she feels the worst part of growing old is that no one touches you.

i, too, love british mystery programs, thanks...
if i could count, i bet i could count on both hands the number of times i'm touched in a year,,, until this year~

for some odd reason, my cousin is a hugger and was here all summer, and when i was almost asleep in bed, she kissed me on the cheek ~!! ( eeeeeekkkk~!)

i gave away some firewood and loaned $10 to a guy referred by a church, and he must have hugged me 8 times, today. and it was pure. maybe that will have to last a while, maybe not, maybe life is changing....

my neighbor, who is the first buddhist to live anywhere near me (also a follower of the teachings of the Buddha), has offered to take me walking with her 2 dogs around this little 'lake' (large pond or reservoir) a couple of times a week... i might actually improve my BMI and stamina and strength~! i walked half a mile to the bus 2x this past week and my leg muscles are whining like a dog .

my cats touch me, one lays on me, and the other demands to be picked up and hugged,,, they are my support system. i believe this is why so many people have pets, for the unconditional love, and body heat that is such a comfort.

thanks Skeez~ for this thought!

This is a theme in my life too. Here at the nursing home, the staff do their best to touch the residents. Someone touched my shoulder this morning. About a week ago, a resident who seems to be gone already touched my ponytail and ran it through his hand. It's very rare that I get touched on my hair/head. Only my friend sometimes does that.
