My husband has one of those machines in his workshop. The door doesn't close, but otherwise everything works. We keep bottled water in it.

Ours was red and we listened to the wooden, dial tuned radio while eating breakfast waiting for the school bus. Didn't know those times were as great as they were.

We had a 1968 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser station wagon with 3 seats, a sun roof and a humongous engine. My brothers got to drive it, but my parents sold it and got a compact car the week after I got my driving permit. This was in the middle of one of the gas shortages. Remember when we all were very worried that gas might go up over $1 per gallon?

I am a "late" boomer, born in 59, but my two older brothers commanded the TV watching schedule so I grew up watching The Fugitive, the Man From U.N.C.L.E, Rat Patrol and so on. I do remember Emma Peel, always so suave. I never got to watch the Brady Bunch until it was in syndication (no big loss).

Actually being outside from sun up to dinner time in the summer with no scheduled play dates having the whole neighborhood to play in and feeling safe. Sure there was Bert the turtle, bomb shelters and naked screaming kids on the news but that stuff all happened in other countries

I remember Loony Tunes cartoons and that cartoons only came on on Saturday morning. And the stations went off at midnight by playing the Star Spangled Banner and then a test screen came on until they returned to the air the next Morning. And news such as Walter Cronkite only came on in the evening.

Do you all remember Mutual of Omaha's "Wild Kingdom" and the "Wonderful World of Disney"? (I think I have that name right. It was something like that.) Those were good shows.

Oh yes. Marlon Perkins used to always say things like "while Jim wrestles with that alligator, lets talk about life insurance". We watched the Wonderful World of Disney every Sunday night. Our TV used to have a high pitched buzz and sometimes the color would go off and you would have to bang the side of it to make it come back on.

Yeah, I guess those wouldn't be given today, come to think of it!

How about S&H green stamps, gotten from grocery stores? They were licked and put in a booklet, which could be redeemed for merchandise at the S&H green stamp store.

Some of you might be too young for this--but dishes with a wheat image on them contained in laundry detergent boxes (Duz?)

And bazooka bubble gum with little comic strips in them

And salespeople in department stores that followed you around and even helped you get clothes in the dressing room, since they made a commission on sales (I think that's right.)

Saddle shoes. My had metal toes so they wouldn't collapse when your mom bought them too big at the beginning of the school year so you could grow into them.
