Remember the feeling of pulling a glass bottle of Coke out of a vending machine? The machine would have a bottle opener built in.

For some reason bottle caps remind me of these dorky hats the adults wore up at the lake. They were of knitted squares sewed together with alternate color yarn.
Wait...upon further thinking of this I think the hats were made from beer cans and sewed together with yarn. Soda cans too. I have to go google this the memories are teasing me. Yes, it was a thing! Crochet hats with the aluminum cans. I think it was a vacation thing tho. __________________ Nammu …Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. Do you remember the sound of driving over the black hose at gas stations?
A nice man would walk up to find out what you needed. Fillerup check the oil (pull dip stick, wipe, insert, pull and look, put it back), and clean windows!! We don’t have full service where I am |

I do remember that it was discontinued soon after I got my license. I remember driving to the only remaining full service station cause I didn't want to smell like gasoline.

Did anyone else make juvenile prank phone calls?
To a tobacco shop: Do You have Prince Albert in a can? Well, you'd better let him out!!! To a bowling alley: Do you have 10 pound balls? How in the heck do you walk!? To a household: Is your refrigerator runing? Well, you'd better catch it!!! To a gas station: Have you pumped ethyl lately? & on & on they went...Pretty juvenile, but we had odd senses of humor. |

We didn't do that but we did listen in on the party line. Remember calling for the time?

Oh my gosh, yes!! We called the “time and temperature” line all the time in St. Louis!
I had a friend that used to like to make prank calls when we were little. She liked to call people with the last name Heinz and sing the Heinz ketchup song (Carly Simon song) Anticipation into the phone. I wouldn’t do it...she thought I was a party pooper. |

We don't have full gas station service where I am either.
I also remember party lines. I'm sure young people would find that hard to believe. Pick up the phone and someone else using it, so you'd have to wait?! |

I remember when they revived old radio shows to recast. Mystery and thriller shows.

We were discussing phones...I hated the cords on the phones (we only had one phone). I'd be trying to talk to my girlfriend (making sweet talk) & my parents were in the next room! Embarrassing!
I remember getting a transistor radio for my 6th birthday. I'd listen to the Detroit Tiger baseball games after my bedtime with the radio under my pillow. |

I remember this looong phone cord that could reach through the kitchen and half-way through the living room! That thing was a pain to keep looped correctly because people would stretch it to the brink, and it would bounce back all whopper jawed.

What I remember about phones is there was just the one, mostly in the kitchen or hall and it had a loud ring that could be heard outside but if ya didn't get to it in time ya had no idea who called! There were no answer machines, no caller IDs, no last number dialed. 'Twas a different way of life.

Ha! Yes, so true. We used ringing signals as a clue to pick up the phone (ring once hang up, then call back).
