I'm not sure how I got myself into the situation that a social evening out requires a "!". There was the broken foot situation, the broken heart, the fixing the garage roof, the 2 month volunteer job... and somehow every time I met someone I felt bored and withdrew back into internet land.

however, spring sprang and really it is utterly stupid to live in a big city and to feel that everyone's conversation is so utterly boring as to need to be avoided.

in the space of an hour I've found 3 discussion groups that seem as cynical and questioning as my own mind so I'm going to try one of them on Tuesday.

the "running and dancing" is semi-retired but daily exercise still occurs thank god. I don't think that I would have made it down off the garage roof yesterday without it.

in fact the garage roof had a role in kicking me to get out there. seems to me that replacing roofing on a not-very-secure roof in the middle of a violent storm is not the way I want my life to end up....

will see whether the other options are more attractive.
what am I going to wear now that I've been buried in two layers of thermals all winter?!
would you vote for "frumpy" or "freezing" .

best to all you seniors!

Glad you made it down off the roof safely. My personal vote would be for frumpy. Wow I can't imagine spring has sprung where you live. It's snowing today here where I live...

So kind Skeezyks! Thanks for your vote, and your understanding . Perhaps I'm going to not-worry about what to wear because I don't want to end my evening feeling miserable on the walk home. I just feel guilty about the frumpiness of winter clothing around this time of year.

Coming down off roofs is trickier than getting up on them!! There is a moment when my legs seem to have become shorter than when I climbed up and the ladder is too far away. Perhaps it's just that going up my head is pointing in the right direction. I hate this but there is only me to do it and it's gotta be done.

I am pleased with having put a social event in my diary .

Wishing you a mellow evening yourself inside in the warm !!! Seems like you might be further north than my friends in Chicago, and they have the coldest weather ever this winter.

Thanks to you both I managed the dress code confidently and got myself to the social event almost on time - but it was a disaster because the venue was outrageously noisy and no one could hear each other speak... however,

I pulled myself back together... and am going on another social event in one week's time. Partly I think that the intention and the effort of "getting out there again" is important - I suppose I'm not letting myself get too excited about it this time though!

I totally hate social events when you can't even exchange names without shouting! There is a problem with that in my city because venues want to extort maximum money so organisers may get gazumped by a higher bidder at the last minute. There is no such thing as a free meeting space any more.

Thank you Travelling Lady! I'm curious about you name.
It's helpful to have this thread as a reminder that I need/ love socialising but I forget to do it because often the results are discouraging.

I do know hundreds of people in my neighbourhood but that's different from actively getting dressed and going out for the evening... so the edges of my world shrink.

I'm trying to do a bunch of traveling--especially bucket list places--hence the name.

I did have a name that focused on the fact that I have chronic pain conditions, but I decided to change it to a more positive one.
