I'm 61, and my mom is 86. Neither of us are sure about taking the Covid shot. I can't push it with her if I'm not taking it myself. Are you getting the shot when it becomes available? No judgment either way you go, it's totally a personal decision.

Oh definitely. I’m 62 and mum is 93. She had shot number one last week and is now worrying about me. I’m not eligible for a while. We get our flu shots every year too.

My mother had quite a reaction to her second vaccine, but my father felt fine...he wouldn't admit to feeling weak even if he did, BTW! I've heard that the second shot sometimes can make you feel bad. I'm not sure there's a rhyme or reason here in NC about getting the shots. Some people in their 50's are getting the vaccine, while some of the elderly haven't gotten the first shot yet. I think most Govenor's dropped the ball on making a plan for the vaccinations one the vaccine was available. Good news is it's still 99.8 treatable, and that heard immunity is kicking in.

I've had my first and will get my second on St. Patrick's Day. My doc doesn't want me to go anywhere until I've had my second shot. The side effects can be rough, but better than a bad case of COVID--they've been no deaths from the vaccine!

I had my second Pfizer shot on the 24th. I had a tiny headache that night and am completely fine.

I just realized that I can be in a senior lounge. I just turned 55. Wow. How did that happen.

I got both doses, not due to age or health conditions, but due to my job. My dad is 83 and he just got both his as well. Obviously because of age

He had no side effects. But I was very sick and am still not 100% ok. I was sick after both doses but much worse after second. My husband is same age as me and also got it due to his job. He was not feeling well after both doses.

But I am sure, and have evidence from people who had covid, that covid would feel way worse than the side effects of vaccination .

I had one friend to be very sick for a few days after the second shot. But she's fine now. Also had several friends that were Covid positive and are fine now after taking the zpac. One friend tested positive after getting the first shot, her main complaint was feeling really tired and she had to be quarantined. So I really think side effects depends on the individual, and maybe the brand of vaccine. Hope you get to feeling better soon

Not sure that the no deaths from the vaccine is still true, or if they would publish it if were not true. There have been some serious allergic reactions from the vaccine that were probably caught in time. Here's some info from the CDC. With all the irregularities in reporting it's hard to tell what's Covid related deaths, unless the Covid test was done at the time of death. Many have come forward saying their family member died from conditions other than Covid. Notice how the Flu has magically disappeared and many people died of the flu yearly. From my time working in a hospital I've seen many elderly get the flu, that lead to pneumonia, then death. But you don't hear of these cases anymore. It's enough to make me suspicious of some of the findings. Anyway.....I guess we may never know the entire truth of this Virus, at least for a little while longer. IMHO

The info you shared talks about deaths after having the vaccine but because they still got sick with Covid. It’s not deaths from the vaccine itself.

If people had a vaccine and still contracted covid and then died, then they died of covid. They didn’t die because they were vaccinated. That’s not the correct cause and effect correlation. It’s like if I take meds and still got sick, I didn’t get sick because I took meds. Wrong causation

I've been nagging my GP to let me know the moment I can get vaccinated. I am about crazy from worrying about catching/transmitting covid.

My parents are both dead, but I know they would have been in favor of the vaccine.

Nothing wrong with looking at research. Many of us do the same. I was just pointing out the cause and effect in the article. I didn’t see any statistics on how many people died of vaccine. It was talking about dying of covid.

Yes if one dies from a side effect of a vaccine, then we can say that the person died because of vaccine.

It’s possible to contract covid after vaccination. No vaccine is 100%. It’s even more possible after just one dose. I have a coworker who got covid after first dose. Thankfully she recovered. Yes people would be treated like everyone else who had covid. They wouldn’t be treated differently because they already had the first dose.

Yes it’s a personal decision to not get vaccinated. We always had people who don’t vaccinate. Even with required vaccination, people get wavers and such. It will be no different with covid vaccine.

What did you mean that 99.8% is a recovery rate. Recovery of covid? No of course just having covid isn’t a death sentence as most people don’t die, but not everyone who died died just of comorbid factors. Are you saying that no one actually died of covid, or only 0.02%? Where did you see this statistics?

My parents have been dead for many years. So I don't have to worry about them. I'll probably get the shot when it's convenient. (It won't change anything in terms of my lifestyle. So I'm in no particular hurry.) So far the only places the vaccine's been available have been in locations around the metropolitan area I'm completely unfamiliar with. Interestingly, one of the first places the vaccine was available, from my healthcare provider, was in one of the wealthiest suburbs in the metro. I understand, though, they've closed that site down now. Guess all the rich folks got theirs...

The statistics are from CDC , medical authorities, and Infectious Diseases Control. Though the mandates for control, contagion , and long term affects seem to change weekly. Also have had close friends to contract Covid and I have followed their progress. I do not proclaim to be a Medical Expert on Covid, really don't think anyone can claim that at this point. People need to do their own research and make their own decisions on Covid, and the vaccine.

No people do not get to do their own research and make their own decisions with regard to Covid. They can choose not to get the vaccine but the facts about Covid are clear, correct, concise and supported throughout the greater medical community. Yes people should make their own decisions but we need to be mindful what kind of misleading information we post publicly. Many people might be gullible and this being a mental health forum some people might be quite vulnerable already, these are tough times. Someone might read that covid survival rate is 99.8%, assume that it’s true and stop using precautions.

Sure people should be responsible for using logic and don’t just believe everything but I don’t think it means we are free to post anything and everything. We should be mindful.

We are free to post our personal preferences of course. Such as “I want to get vaccinate”, “or I am not comfortable with vaccination”. It’s quite different than statement “covid has 99.8% survival rate”. This goes beyond personal preference and it’s misleading.

I have not seen weekly changes in control, contagion and long term effects. It has been quite consistently the same. There might be more long term effects discovered eventually, sadly it is a reality of all illnesses, it takes time to find out every possible long term effect. But that wouldn’t be a weekly change. Wow, you are really a bully. I am aware that this is Psych Central's platform, but we are in a Senior's Lounge taking about a thread started about myself and my mother, and thoughts on the vaccine. I have not told anyone to get the vaccine or not to get the vaccine. I have stressed doing the research before you decide, if that's what you want to do.
There were some new guidelines put out just today, go look them up if you are interested.
The 99.8 survival rate has been around for a long time, it may have been adjusted since I last heard about it. But that doesn't mean it was false information then or now. As said before things with Covid stats do change regularly. COVID survival rate holding at 99.8% for adults 18-64 - The Sentinel
