The first car I remember was my parents' light blue Pontiac, I think it was. Then they got a Ford Falcon in, I think in 1960.
My first car was a 1966 Ford Mustang. What a great car! If I were a better driver and was more adventurous, I would get another Mustang. I least those cars weren't made out of plastic and cheap metal. They were more solidly made--and I wish I had one that wasn't a computer on wheels, like the cars are now. They could withstand an IMP attack and still run! |

I am SO JEALOUS that you got a Mustang for your first car! (I coveted the '67 convertible)
Mine was, however, the fabulous, unbeatable VW Bug...as was the second, and the third, then came the Dart, Plymouth, (all used, all self-maintained then), ......did have an old Saab once...My parents' first car, when we moved out of the city, was a Dark Green Buick that they babied till they got a Dark Green Dodge Coronet 440 that I drove and happened to be the very same car our undercover cops were driving, same year...lol I learned standard on a vw and a 1944 Mercury (three on the column) sorry, got me babbling... __________________ "...don't say Home / the bones of that word mend slowly...' marie harris |

1991: I go to get my first car. A ford Escort. I went with my brother so I wouldn't be taken advantage of. He totally whimped out and I had to wrestle the salesman down 2K. This was my first inkling that my brother, who I thought was competent was incompetent.
2000: I go to get my second car... ford Focus. I go with my dad so I won't be taken advantage of. My dad didn't talk the entire time. This was a first inkling my dad was succumbing to dementia. 2008: I am going to get a used car. A BMW. One I liked. I went alone. I got taken advantage of. The car leaked in the rain. 2013: I was in danger of losing my job. I got a ford festiva. Shockingly this was one of the best cars I ever had but it was terrible in the snow. The sales man was IMHO inappropriate trying to tell me in the car i needed to get out and meet a man.... told him twice in a nice way not to make me beep the horn and scream "stranger danger" 2016: I had a stable job and I went and got a Honda HRV. Considering saving up for a real new BMW x1. |

My first car was a Chrysler La Barron, 1966 I think. It was basic but man what an engine. I could plow through snow drifts with that car and often floored it on back roads. V8 mopar! Was my college car, named tiger. I could do basic repair myself as there was no computer parts.
My next car was a tame dart. Reliable was blue with white top. Called him prince charming. Put a stick though the radiator and changed it out myself. Easy maintenance After that was just cars. I don’t remember much about them and didn’t name them, they worked and got me from point A to point B but as they got power everything they became harder and harder to work on. Now I don’t even change the oil. __________________ Nammu …Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. I've driven many cars over the years, a bunch owned by my parents until I was on my feet. Fords and Chevys--including a Chevy Vega and a Chevy Chevette.
I've owned two little Ford station wagons and now I own a red 2011 Ford Fusion. I love this car and hope to keep it for a good while yet. |

My first car...I was in love with it. A beige and white '71 VW Bus. I owned it for 12 years. I still have dreams of driving it.

I also really like Ford. The only thing imho Ford isn't as reliable as other brands, such as Honda. But, I always think they give you much more for the money and I generally enjoy driving them.

Let me see.
1975 Fiat 128 (75 hp engine, but the manual transmission made it fun to drive) 1976 Ford Mustang II (171 cubic inch V6 - manual transmission) I hated the looks of the car, but it was fun to drive. I bought it as a non-running car with a disassembled engine and then rebuilt the engine myself. 1981 Ford F100 pickup (255 cubic inch (4.2L) V8 ) I got several funny reactions when I went to get engine parts - no one at the parts store ever heard of a Ford 255 V8.... but it shared many parts with the 302. It was a 4 speed, but 1st speed was a creeper gear. I miss this truck. 1975 Volvo 164 with straight 6 and 4 speed manual transmission with overdrive. This car also had heated seats, 4 wheel disc brakes, electronic ignition, and electronic fuel injection. Unusual looking Volvo. I wish I still had this car! 1990 Plymouth Laser RS turbo with 5 speed manual transmission. This was my favorite car. I looked around until I found just the right one. The previous owner had added the Eagle Talon body moldings/spoiler. This was a great looking, fun car! Ford Crown Victoria. This one was well cared for. We were the second owner and we put tons of miles on it with very few problems. I liked it, but my wife hated it. I liked it because I got a good deal on it, it looked good, and it ran forever! 2000's (I don't remember the exact year) Pontiac Grand Prix 2 door. This was a another car that was well-cared for by its previous owners. and it was a sharp looking car with tan leather seats and a red exterior. We lost this one to an engine fire. Mid 1990's Dodge Dakota 4x4 extended cab pickup. We owned a couple of late 1990's and early 2000's Ford F150 4x4 crew cabs. 2008 Ford Fusion - this is my current car. It's black with a 5 speed manual transmission. It's paid off - but doesn't look great b/c it's starting to show some rust... and it has about 200,000 miles on it. (it did look great when we bought it 6 years ago). __________________ My business is to teach my aspirations to conform themselves to fact, not to try and make facts harmonise with my aspirations. What a variety of cars, shakespeare47! You must live where there's lots of snow, since your car is rusting....
I still might get myself a Mustang as my last car! |

My wife has owned a few nice cars since we've been married. When I met her, she had a 1990's 2 door British racing green Pontiac Grand prix. We both loved her silver 2014 Chevy Equinox - but her current turbocharged dark gray 2019 Chevy Equinox with black rims is even better. We do get some snow here. But the amount of snowfall has really dropped off, and I don't miss it! How do you like your 2011 Fusion? If I don't buy a BMW 535d I'll probably buy a newer Fusion. __________________ My business is to teach my aspirations to conform themselves to fact, not to try and make facts harmonise with my aspirations. Some of the more memorable cars I remember my parents driving-
1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle - this was their first and only new car They also owned a Volkswagen station wagon sometime in the 1970's - but we didn't have it long - It was either a type 3 squareback or a type 4 (411LE). (I think it was most likely a type 3 squareback). 1970's Volkswagen Westphalia pop-up camper Green 1960's Dodge station wagon Red 1970's Ford station wagon - I remember this thing being huge! Blue 1980's Volare station wagon __________________ My business is to teach my aspirations to conform themselves to fact, not to try and make facts harmonise with my aspirations. T.H. I miss station wagons....
I'm not sure what's happening with the Ford Fusion now and in the future. I love my 2011 Fusion and hope to keep it at least 5 more years. No problems with it, except for that feature where the windows rolled down on their own--and corporate sent out someone to fix that. I've seen a Mustang that sort of looks like an SUV. I'll see what Mustangs look like in about five years. I might get a used one then. My favorite Mustang so far was the 1968 one. |

I just looked through some pictures of the 1968 Mustang - that is a pretty sharp looking car! Re: Station wagons - based on the prices I've been seeing, it looks like demand for vintage station wagons is increasing. __________________ My business is to teach my aspirations to conform themselves to fact, not to try and make facts harmonise with my aspirations.
