Cars came with bench seats and larger steering wheels and no safety belts....there was no such thing as a child safety seat.

The woody was the station wagon with wood sides!

I still miss big phone books.

Cool car, Gus! My uncle had one of those chevys.

Anyone remember standing on the differential hump while riding in the car?

I remember standing on the hump tho mostly I curled up on one side or the other with my toys and books, we took lots of road trips. Anybody else ever got to travel on the upper bed in a camper? That was a great way to see the USA.

i remember when 3 or 4 of us younger kids would ride in the back of the pick-up, and jump up and down on the bumpy roads, cause you never knew where the floor would be.... talk about 'cheap thrills' LOL (yes, ONE time a cousin fell out of the pick-up, but i think he was pushed~)

Our old car had an 8 track tape player in it. Remember switching between tracks?

I rode in the back of a truck a few times. I wasn’t aware of hair knotting up in the wind the first time

My mom had a Chevy Chevette (it’s gonna make you happy-that was the commercial jingle). Anyway, I used to put the seats down in the back and stretch out on my back and look at the sky (the hatchback was slanted so you could see straight up.
Thanks for this!

I owned a Chevette at one point, but didn't think to put the seats down.

Yer mum making clothes on the sewing machine. Of being forced to take home ec, cooking and sewing classes if you were a girl. Oh right typing was required for girls too, but lots of boys took that class.

I am sure I will think of more but this is off the top of my head:
I remember selling Girl Scout cookies for 50 cents a box door to door.
Fond memories of Christmas's, circling and writing down everything I wanted from the sears catalog.
Riding in the back seat of the station wagon that faced backwards.
My first time buying nylons, and garter belt.
Going to the local drug store and having a shake at the long counter with stools.
A little diner that had a penny candy counter and having a nickel and getting a big sackful of candy.
My fathers first grocery store.
Thanks for this!

Ah, Hairball, thanks for reminding me of those things. Other than the garter belt, I'd love to do some of that again. Yep, 50 cent Girl Scout cookies. And I adored the Sears Christmas catalog. What fun!

was out and about today and after many many years I still see gumball machines and those games where you pick up stuffed animals with a claw but what happened to the little cars and horses that you could ride for a quarter?

also thought of my younger school days getting my milk with a token in a chest freezer type thing, that had very small bottles of white milk and choc milk and the conveyor belt would move after purchase.

where I lived everyone had a milk door on the side or back of their house that the milk man delivered the bottles too.

My mother used to pick up her prescriptions at a small town doctor after hours and he would leave them in the milk chute for her.
Thanks for this!

Yeah, most every big store had a horse you put money in a slot to ride or such. There are some types of those rides in malls now, but they are usually cars or helicopters or something along that line.

My grandmother curled her hair with a curling iron she heated on her stove...

Remember the feeling of pulling a glass bottle of Coke out of a vending machine? The machine would have a bottle opener built in.

For some reason bottle caps remind me of these dorky hats the adults wore up at the lake. They were of knitted squares sewed together with alternate color yarn.

Wait...upon further thinking of this I think the hats were made from beer cans and sewed together with yarn. Soda cans too. I have to go google this the memories are teasing me.

Yes, it was a thing! Crochet hats with the aluminum cans. I think it was a vacation thing tho.
