The Five Best Dog Breeds for Senior Citizens | PetHelpful
I'm thinking I'll need a smaller dog at some point, so I can pick it up if needed and it won't take me for a walk. What do you all think? |

My mum has had larger dogs in the past (Labrador height-wise, but lighter built), but says she can’t manage a larger one now. We currently have a toy poodle mix. Only concern is the potential tripping hazard, especially if they start doing the zoomies while you’re walking around. Might depend on the individual dog, though.

No no nope, I’ll never get a small yappy biter dog. I’d rather have no dog than one of those. Chihuahuas, don’t get me started. I lived in an apartment and chose a cat over a small dog. My sister and brother-in-law went no dog because a lab is to much for them now and they don’t want a tiny terror either.

I haven't found all of them to be "yappy." I'd really want a cat and a dog. A dog, I find, can help with warning me about potentially bad things in the neighborhood--and at my door. And they might be a deterent for burglars and murderers. And the little ones are more manageable. And some of them are really cute,

We have a poodle and a silky terrier, both devoted companions. I don't personally care for chihuahuas, but they are good pets....they are mostly a "one person" dog. Yorkie's are popular and a devoted pet. Any dog basically will be a great pet and devoted companion, it's up to the owner to make them that way.

While it is true that mean people make mean dogs it’s not always so with small dogs and their Neapolitan complex. I’ve know great people with both big dogs and small, the big dogs were friendly and the small dogs mean.

I think small dogs can get defensive; for one thing they’re more at risk from being accidentally hurt, and people don’t always treat them like dogs because they’re often cuter than larger dogs. The cute factor triggers the “caretaker” response in a lot of people, so some small dogs get treated more like babies, than have their actual needs met, if that makes sense? Even dogs don’t really care to be infantilised.
