I’m scared to even read those links.Social Security Issues And I’m afraid it won’t be there for me and if they keep raising the minimum age it definitely won’t be.

And I will probably lose my MediCaid due to life insurance benefits. Any gain you get the government wants a piece as in taxes. Or they cut your benefits since you have these funds.Social Security Issues

When it comes to these things I have one observation: People can't win.

It seems Medicare is now paying less on drugs, too, even with the plan.
Thanks for this!

If the Republicans would get out of the way congress could fix the drug costs.

While I am delighted with the increase, it only served to push me further away from qualifying for the "extra help" they speak of ...

I'm one of those that makes just a wee bit too much (less than 20k a year after mandatory Medicare deductions), yet not enough to swing proper medical care on my own.

It sucks watching oneself fall through the cracks ...

I can relate. It's the American Way. I don't get the "extra help" and I'm sure many don't. They put so many draconian requirements to get "help". If you make over the income "limit" they reduce or stop your benefits, so you fall farther into poverty. And the limit is so insanely low, one would be in a tent by then.

I read CA will get rid of the asset cap for MediCal next year, as forcing people to have so little in assets to qualify means no money for emergencies, retirement, or other expenses. Everyone doesn't live in a house or have a pension. They are left for fend for themselves. Many pay rent and "low income senior housing" is not only not plentiful but the waiting lists are years long. And they have both minimum and maximum income requirements.

Age requirements, income requirements, sigh. Until last year I wasn't old enough to get help from this non-profit that "helps" older adults find resources they need.

IT IS and it took me over 60 years to REALLY see it! I've looked at things through different eyes since COVID, which magnified the inequality already there. As a kid I was spoon fed the idea of how great we are. Brainwashed, I was! Hard work and play by the rules and you get ahead. What BS. I hope they don't still teach that. It's a lie.

And we do a lot of victim blaming and gaslighting in this culture too. And positive thinking is supposed to fix everything, even physical illnesses.

Unfortunately I don't think we'll see an overhaul in our lifetime either, unless we live to be 100. And maybe not even then.

Here's the Average Social Security Check for All 66 Million Beneficiaries in 2023

I'm not quite as cynical as some of you are--but I definitely don't want the GOP to be making decisions about Social Security.

The good thing is that the house will waste their time on cutting SS but they don’t have the senate on their side. That time away from their unicorn hunting of Biden.

Social Security Cuts Are on the Table: How the Current Proposal Can Impact You

At least I'm already on Social Security. My younger son, who is 30, is already saving up for retirement, assuming SS will be non-existent by the time he's eligible anyway.

Yes here is an excerpt from the article you mentioned

Quote:
The problem comes, however, if scary Social Security headlines about the program running out of money end up prompting you to claim your retirement benefit checks earlier than you otherwise would have.

Claiming benefits early has financial consequences that can last throughout your retirement, as early filing penalties could reduce your check by up to 30%, while forgoing delayed retirement credits means missing out on a benefit boost worth as much as 8% annually.

Rather than anticipating Social Security won't be there for you, it's best to make your decisions about claiming benefits while operating under the assumption you're likely to get most or all of the promised money, since lawmakers are unlikely to allow such a popular program to be drastically cut.

Those changes are mostly positive especially to the elderly and low income earner. Taxing those that earn over 400, 000 isn’t a bad idea.
