My parents always watched Red Skelton. And Jackie Gleason.

I don't like lots of the humor these days either---too much about sex and bad words. I do like "The Big Bang Theory" and "Young Sheldon," too. I even laugh out loud occasionally with them.
I used to watch "Red Skelton" and "Jackie Gleason." My dad especially liked Red Skelton. Some of his things were funny. I remember "Gertrude and Heathcliff, the two sea gulls" and the hobo who got into a bathtub and pulled a window shade over himself. "The Carol Burnett Show" had some funny scenes. I liked it. I do like some stand-up comedians, although they tend to be raunchy, such as Wanda Sykes. I don't have many people to talk to in real life either. I haven't made any new friends to replace ones who have died or who I have moved away from, since COVID is keeping me mainly inside. My last therapist said I didn't really need her, but I just needed a friend to talk to, How true. SO, I'm really glad you folks are here. |

Yeah the last therapist I saw said the same thing, that I didn’t need a therapist. So this is where I get my social needs met.

Sometimes think I was born in the “wrong” era for that reason, along with never fully embracing technology. It’s forced on us. Thankfully I can watch old shows…ironically due to technology and way more networks than the 3 we had as kids! If I had enough genuine friends I never would have had to see a therapist. I remind myself of what we talked about and how well I manage without friends. Yeah I do but that doesn’t mean I don’t want friends still. Carol Burnett was funny alright along with Lucille Ball who mentored Carol. Anne Meara and Phyllis Diller were funny too. I like a few more “newer”comedians like Billy Crystal and Robin Williams, the latter we sadly lost. I come on here for my emotional and intellectual needs. Even the book club isn’t what I hoped due to a couple of overbearing and long winded women. At least on here I could scroll past them, lol. Don’t have to hear or see them either. One of them always has a scowl on her face. I try not to look at her and try to tune her out too. Thought I finally got a new hairdresser but even she abandoned me. This last appointment she didn’t show and didn’t even call to cancel….until the end of the day. And even then it could have been cause I left her a message asking where are you???? How unprofessional and a deal breaker. Now I have to look again for someone. Before this appointment she got the time down wrong and I waited a half hour. Given all going on I wanted to cut her slack and give her another chance. Then she does this. In her message she didn’t even sound truly sorry. I asked in my message why she didn’t call right away and she didn’t call back this time. I know she needs the business so why not appease me by offering a discount? I lost time but I could save money. Her English isn’t good and she could come from a culture where time isn’t as important. Or ignoring a customer who had an appointment. Don’t mean that as racist but there are cultures that are much slower paced than us. Here you say you have to cancel, don’t just not show up. Know this is off topic but seems to me society had better manners in the old days. Sick of people acting like my time and me as a person don’t matter. I do matter. I liked bob hope and George burns. I loved the rode movies with hope and Crosby too, they were just for entertainment, no messages, just sit back and enjoy.

And she's a very busy executive kitty. I like that! Good sense of humor.... I find myself mostly watching reruns of old shows, since I don't care for many of the new ones. I'll be checking here every day now, looking forward to getting together with you all. I'm sorry your new hairdresser didn't work out, owl. Maybe the lady doesn't understand manners in the U.S. Where is she from? I have a Korean friend who used to be my hairdresser. She's quite a character, even by Korean standards. |

I watched a Laurel and Hardy short this morning. It was silent but still funny, as the humor was the physical kind. I don't know where the stylist is from but her English isn't good. I asked her if the number on her business card is her CELL and I even POINTED to it in her hand. She said yes! It turned out not to be and she had a different number for her cell, which has a Caller ID of a plumbing company so I thought it was a telemarketing call. Finally heard from her this past Monday morning and she seemed contrite enough; I asked did some kind of emergency happen and she said yes. Said she was distracted. (The number I left a message on was what I thought was her cell number, at that time.....) Being that I DO have a heart and know how we can be distracted, especially with the world's woes, I gave her a THIRD chance this morning. We were to have an appointment and this time I waited just 15 minutes, not a half hour! It was hot and I'm sitting on a uncomfortable bench! No show! And no call/text on MY cell or at home either. Deal breaker! I can't keep doing this. Seems having a heart cost me my time but I can't help myself.....We all get distracted at times. I stopped by another salon near by and they charge way more! Sigh.....It shouldn't be this hard. And with all that's going on these days, I really needed to splurge and treat myself. And I need stability and routine. I need that no matter how old I am. Seems I'm hard-wired that way.....Need to have some kind of constant or routine. __________________ Call me "owl" for short! Hmmm....looks like some good tips in here. "Okay, enough photos. Yeah, you've given that lady every fair chance. I hope you find a good, reasonable hair dresser soon.

Thank you. My gut said don't do it, but my hair is so unruly now.... She did good work but I need somebody to be ON TIME. And speak English better for crying out loud. It causes communication problems and frustration.

I just go to a chain hair cutting place. They never have the same person twice in a row but it is affordable and so far my haircuts are from fine to exceptional. I tipped the exceptional lady a very good tip. I like it because it’s no fuss and I don’t have to chat. I explain that when I take my hearing aids out I won’t be able to hear. They have been great at not trying to chat with me. You can do everything on line, sign in pick a time, get up dates on timeline and arrive minutes before and sign in electronically, my name comes up on a screen and presto, I’m getting my hair cut. Since I started aqua fitness I keep my hair short. I think it might be called a pixie I’m not sure. The first time I was there I showed the woman what I wanted because I had very long hair. After that I just tell them to shorten it up and they all do it a bit different. It keeps things fresh. All in all I’m pleased with them.

Sometimes I feel like chatting, if it's with the right person. I sure miss my old stylist of 27 years. She retired and I haven't found anything even close---personality wise or skills wise. Need to regroup from this latest disappointment before trying yet another salon....I really needed a treat and haven't even been motivated to do a chore or two. Maybe I already said that, LOL. I'm just so irritated so that's one reason I can't watch January 6th hearings. __________________ Call me "owl" for short! Hmmm....looks like some good tips in here. "Okay, enough photos. I guess I'm being unfriendly, but now I prefer the chain, walk-in haircutting places, too. I'm not tied to a particular hairdresser. What I come out like ranges from "It'll grow out again" to "Great! I love it!" Maybe at some point I'll find a regular hairdresser who I like and who does a great job, but right now I'm just glad to get the head hairs snipped shorter from time to time.
Changing the subject, I think someone here (in the Books thread) mentioned Relic by Lincoln and Child as a great book. At any rate, thank you! It was wonderful--but now I'm addicted to the Pendergast series, which only consists of over 20 books! So, you all know what I'll be doing in the next few months--reading them one after the other! Hubby and I are heading to the U.S. Capitol to see the fireworks and visit with our second son. I just hope there will not be some sort of riot, demonstration, bombing, or whatever while I'm there. Our son lives within walking distance of the White House. |

Oh definitely loved the Pendergast series. I really need to go back and read it from the beginning cause I haven’t read all of them and read some out of order so the time line is a bit confused. But yeah they pulled me in.
Have fun in Washington DC, and yeah, I hope there’s no mayhem. Tomorrow or Sunday I’m going to go shopping for something to eat on the forth. Thinking chicken and potato salad. Today I’m thinking Culver’s for their flavor of the day sundae, it’s cashew Carmel. Sounds like a treat. __________________ Nammu …Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. Cashew caramel.....That sounds good.
It's wild, but my son has obtained permission for me and hubby to eat at a buffet on the top of the federal building. It'll be interesting to see what they serve. Potato salad sounds good. And I'd love some fried chicken..... |

Never head of man vs bee, but I like that actor, he’s quite funny.

We thought to watch it.
Was it any good? Funny? Is it appropriate for young kids? Isn’t it a kid movie? I am babysitting our granddaughter today m (my step to be precise), she is 7. We went everywhere and did everything on this planet today, I can’t play anything to save my life for another 5 minutes. I thought to see if she can watch that. When I give her tv time all she wants to watch is Pokémon. Mind you she asked to watch you tube. Say what? We only allow her to watch stuff on kids account. No you tube. But I am sick of Pokémon. Animation is such low quality and it’s annoying |
