I play solitaire. Both cards and mahjong. Not as often as I used to when I had a computer. I had lots of games back in the 00’s puzzles, Pictionary, Travis games, and paint. After my computer died all I have in my mini iPad so everything is tiny. I was interested the junes clues or something like that but I’ve read some reviews and it sounds like it’s changed not for the better since it came out. So I just make do with solitaire.

I used to play a lot of board games as a kid, like Monopoly and Backgammon. Now there's no one left to play with. I never knew how to play any card games, except Blackjack many, many years ago but I forgot now.

Does anyone else like or play mah jong? It's popular at the senior center. I haven't tried it but it seems like a lot of people like it. The beginner's class is on a day and time I don't like.

What's the difference between a mini iPad, iPad, and tablet? Does your mini iPad have a keyboard, meaning a separate physical keyboard? Or it's just on the screen? I swear I don't even know the differences between all that and a laptop.

Right now I'm going to catch up on some reading, as I've had a long morning and enough of screens at the moment.

We played tons of board games in the summer. Mum and I would go up north for the summer and various cousins join us. We’d even take the games out to the pontoon and play on the lake. We played tons of card games too. Including a version of uno before uno came out with their deck marked especially for uno. But mostly we played 500. It was a game any age could play.

I’ve played mahjong in Texas when I lived down there. At the senior center. It’s fun. I was familiar with the tiles from playing solitaire and I found it easy to learn. If you go a few times to the beginning classes then you can switch to a more convenient time. It’s fun. The senior center here doesn’t have mahjong.

As far as I know the only difference between iPad and mini iPad is the size. The key pad comes up on the screen. I’m not familiar with tablets so I don’t know if they are different. Minis are I think 5x7 or so, so bigger than a phone. But still small compared to my desktop that I used to have.

Mahjong isn't offered around here--just games like Bridge.

Getting back to movie ratings. I did a doubletake when I saw one of the warnings for a new PG movie is "smoking." That's interesting....

Geez smoking gets a pg rating but killing people with guns is also pg? Soo much violence should have an r rating. I duneo I never understood rating systems. I was positive that cactus flower was rated r way back when it came out. It was the second feature at a drive in theaters and my parents told me I couldn’t watch it but of course I did. It has suicide in it and adult situations but it’s pg! That surprised me.

Talking about tablets.

If one wants to have something bigger than a phone and rather not buy expensive Ipad, various kindles are great. We have kindles of all sizes and configurations. We went through kindle obsession period for awhile. They last forever. None we have ever broke. Small ones could be as cheap as $30, that’s the cheapest we got one time on Black Friday. You can play games, watch tv, stream anything, read, email, look up stuff and you can have separate kindle for just reading etc

No I don’t work for kindle hahah I just heard people often complain not having a computer or tablet and ipad is too expensive (it is!). Too many people don’t know about kindle and it’s capabilities! Highly recommend

Oh yeah tv shows sometimes have warning like “smoking”. I know they always have “drug use” warning but smoking must be new?

On my smartphone I like the android app Classic Words which is like Scrabble against the computer.

On the computer I like Outspell. You have to watch an ad but the game is like scrabble revved up. For example Triple word scores are active no matter how many times you use them.

I think "smoking" is the so-called rating for a movie, but I don't know the name of the one Trav posted about. I don't think the title of the movie is "smoking", is it? Smoking in this context might mean awesome or something like that.

The ratings system is flawed for sure, and it hasn't always been around! I agree that stuff like suicide especially and other adult situations should be R, not PG! I saw Cactus Flower too but on cable I think, years after it came out. I like Goldie Hawn.

On the topic of online games,
I play some match 3 games that are meant for children.I really enjoy them. Some of them has background music, some say good job, excellent, well done when you win.I totally become a kid while playing. After a while I feel silly and switch to games that are meant for grown ups.Games that are mentally stimulating.Sudoku, puzzles, scrabble things like that.I find myself constantly switching between these two phases. As if I am being a child for sometime and then being an adult for sometime.Anybody relate to this?Is this part of trying to soothe my inner child?I am trying to do the things that I couldn't as a child?I can feel a great deal of relief when I play those child appropriate games on line.

Goldie Hawn was one of my favorites on Laugh In, which was one of my favorite shows as a kid.

I don't play games for kids but I watch cartoons I grew up with, like Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry. Not only funny no matter how many times I've seen them, but they make me feel....for a little while, like a kid again. With no responsibilities and stress an adult gets.

I haven't watched any cartoons lately, but I think I'd enjoy the humor in some of them I also liked as a child, such as "The Bullwinkle and Rocky Show."

Has anyone tried or is a member of a walking group for seniors? (Be it from your local senior center, recreational center, informal neighborhood group, whatnot?)

I've gone a few times with the group from my local senior center. They have just one group, not multiple ones for different fitness levels.(Not enough staff for that.....) The guy leading it can't be older than 25. The walks are way too long for me, and I think from now on I'll have to turn back at the halfway point and walk back alone.

The whole point of it is to not to be alone while walking. It's also getting too hot, and there's so much concrete, asphalt and little shade. Busy intersections, traffic, and signals all the time. Not a leisurely walk by any means.

Last time I went it nearly killed me. 2 hours of walking, with just one break of about 15 minutes. After that it took me literally 24 hours to recover. It was miserable, being that exhausted and sore. I have to work up to that amount of time, but there's really no nice places to walk around here anyway. There's a different route each time but I haven't seen much of anything not seen before. And there's tents everywhere now.
