I do believe that Tang is still around. Too bad, because the stuff is disgusting.

Never liked tang but I did love the space food sticks. Mm chocolate and vanilla were both good, didn’t care for Carmel tho. Fudge was best.

My memory is faulty. I just looked up space food sticks and there is no vanilla or fudge. There’s is chocolate, chocolate malt, chocolate mint, orange, peanut butter and the horrible Carmel. I did like all of them except the Carmel.

I'm not familiar with the Space food sticks. Hey, maybe people now can smoke candy cigarettes! I had fun pretending like I was smoking with them.

No internet. No commercials on cable TV. Phones with real rings. Walter Cronkite.
There was a peace to it that I miss a great deal. __________________ |

I’m not familiar with space food sticks or candy cigarettes!
We didn’t have the Internet but I think we had more privacy. Now it’s easier for people to find information on you and make robocalls. We got the occasional wrong number or sales call but now they call and call. Now you’re practically forced to do everything online and I won’t if I have another option. I still go to the bank to see the nice tellers. Can’t get that on the stupid Web. ——— Posted directly on site using iphone __________________ Call me "owl" for short! Anybody remember those Polaroid pictures? That was considered so advanced, watching the picture develop instead of dropping them off at the photo place and waiting a few days.

What I remember is when the film cartridges came out and flash cubes. You didn’t have to pull hot bulbs out to put a fresh h one in. I remember too dads first movie camera, had to have this very bright lamp on.

Those flash bulbs would temporarily “blind” you so you never looked directly at it. ——— Posted directly on site using iphone __________________ Call me "owl" for short! Mimeograph machines and carbon paper. If you made a mistake typing or writing you had to use Wite Out on ALL copies.

I remember all those cameras and used the mimeograph machine when I was first teaching.
Remember the days where hired people did more for you? I remember that a major department store chain (In the South) hired women to check out your bra sizes and find a bra for you--and the store had seamstresses to alter your purchases. And the workers helped you pick out clothes and put back the ones that didn't fit. The men's section had men to measure for suits and alter as well, as well as pick out clothes. Now this store has only two workers for a whole floor! And gas station workers checked your oil, washed your windshield, and put the gas in for you. And workers took care of your credit and debit cars. I see more and more stores are having self checkouts. And people, not computers, answered the phone and helped you. I miss all that! |

I especially miss the gas station attendants. Five and dime stores with their real sodas, real glasses and pies. Department stores. I miss mom and pop restaurants that had grilled cheese and tomato soup with limit menu of daily specials that really were home made food.

Trav and Nam, I miss all that too. I won’t go to a self checkout if there’s humans available, even if the line is long which it often is. I have a favorite checker at the grocery store and no machine can replace her. It’s all about money now. Machines don’t need breaks or paychecks yet they can still be overworked and therefore they break down….like humans.
We used to get free steak knives and glasses from the gas station. I still have one of the knives. Yeah they cleaned the windshield, checked the tire pressure etc. Full service is a joke now. What service? They only fill your tank. I’ve been doing that myself for decades now. ——— Posted directly on site using iphone __________________ Call me "owl" for short! One thing I recall is our TV having tubes. If the TV stopped working my father would take the back off of the set, look for a bad bulb (or perhaps two) and take them to a store where they had a machine you could plug the bulbs into. The machine would tell you if the bulb was good or not. Once you found the bad tube, you could buy a replacement, take it home, & plug it in. Wala! The TV worked!

TVs and all other appliances are so complicated these days--and they don't last all that long.

Oh, I remember that. And shoe repair, radio repair, vacuum cleaner repair, glass milk bottle s that you recycled, pop bottles that you returned, phones that lasted a lifetime….
