I agree. A lot of these things are still useful--and I even have them. I definitely agree about the Corningware. What's supposedly replaced that?

Still have the crock pot but we mostly use the new one because the middle comes out for easier cleaning. And Corningware, yep that good stuff. I don’t think the article was judgmental it was just a nostalgic look back at a time when most people had more in common with their neighbors than now.

I just bought a new crockpot because I broke the top on the one I'd had for over 30 years. That one and the one I bought are metal pots that sit on a warmer. I didn't like the one like they showed in the picture, where you had to scoop the food out either.

I have "dumb" appliances. I don't need another clock to set or anything with a timer to automatically come on. I just click the power button to turn it on. And I'd we worried about security with "smart" things.

I didn't look closely at the image or it's too hard for me to see. My crockpot has a removable pot inside, to easily wash like any pot. It's ceramic and sits in the electric base, I guess you call it.. I do have to scoop the food out but I don't know how else one could get it out?

'Momma can't protect you': Dave Ramsey has a blunt message for young adults who live with their parents. 3 things you need to do to get ahead (and get your own place)

Interesting article. Our 31 year old son is living with us while he sees if the Navy wants him to work on the base in Indiana, like he has before. We aren't charging rent, but he helps us out with tasks such as cooking and buying groceries. I hope he is saving money for a house later, but I'm not sure. He tends to be a spendthrift.

We don't even have a crock pot. Guess we're too old fashioned even for that! (But we do have a microwave oven.)

I remember when the microwaves came out and it was such a big deal! Amazing to reheat or cook things in the fraction of the time it'd take in an traditional oven or on the stove. And not the same heat output.

I use my Crock pot on hot days, since it doesn't involve standing over a hot stove or turning on a hot oven. Just dump everything in it and let it cook all day. Certain foods come out tender and moist, in a way other ways of cooking wouldn't give that. It's easy to clean too, and I now use plastic liners designed for it. No pans to scrub or soak. For me the clean up is more work than the cooking.

Old vs Young ...

When I was young, I was so flexible I could bend over straight-legged and touch my face to my knees ...

I'm so stiff and brittle now that if I were to try that, I'd probably break clean in two!

I couldn't do that when I was young! How young were you?

I can bend straight legged and touch the floor but my face is no where close to my knees! You must have been an athlete or gymnast? I know the latter is flexible. Ballet dancers too.

Sometimes my joints crack when I kneel down. It doesn't hurt it just sounds terrible. Snap, crackle, pop like a bowl of Rice Crispies!

I can put my hands flat on the floor with my legs straight, but I do have to do stretches first. And I was a dancer before Seroquel caused me to gain weight in my 50's. I love to roller skate, though!

Speaking of old, students from a local high school volunteer their time once a month at the senior center. They are available to answer technology questions about your phone, laptop, etc. Oh talk about old…. I feel like a fossil that an archaeologist dug up in some remote area.

I don’t know any young people and have no one to ask. It’s great there are kids doing that but oh my I feel ancient around them.

Oh how nice. You might feel like a fossil but it’s great that they. Do that.

Yes it is and I told them so! Yeah feel like a fossil especially if my joints are bothering me. They come once a month so can’t wait till next week. Last time this girl gave me some tips! It’s not obvious and even though I feel I’m bright some of this is too hard to figure out.

Everytime there’s an update they add more features. I don’t have to use them but they look convenient. I haven’t figured out how to organize my notes even reading the instructions for it.

When I was their age I would have volunteered my time, if the technology even existed.
