ever since i was around 7 years old or so, i was drawn to sexual things and spent lots of time in my childhood watching sexual things online (typically anime with sexual themes.) i started masturbating when i was around 8 or 9, and it turned into an addiction when i was 11 and persists to this day. i stayed up late in the night masturbating instead of sleeping.

people have told me that some things ive experienced could be considered sexual abuse. but as far as i remember, i've never been molested or anything like that.

has anyone else experienced this? it's become a really bad coping mechanism and i've even caused harm to myself. i always feel guilty and disgusting afterward.

I can't really speak to your concern. However, here are links to some articles from PsychCentral's archives on the topic of masturbation (excessive & otherwise.) Perhaps they will be of some help:

https://blogs.psychcentral.com/sex/2...xual-disorder/

https://psychcentral.com/lib/how-muc...n-is-too-much/

https://psychcentral.com/ask-the-the...xually-abused/

Hopefully some of the information in these articles will be of some help.

Many that have sexual addictions started out young and not knowing what they were doing. Now it has become out of control.

The best way that I and others I know have found that healthy coping skills is what helps to fill up time. Also scheduling your time will help, stick to the schedule. Idle time leads to more chances that one will slip back into masturbation.

Examples of healthy coping

Meditation
Reading
Games- video, board, and card
RPG
Getting out of your head by being present with people you care about
Crafts
Exercise
Gratitude
Affirmations

Be careful of the material you read. I have found that kids and teen books are clean and can provide a good distraction.

Do one at a time. As others have said Rome wasn't built in a day. This takes time to heal. Focus on connection with others and healthy coping skills, that is the best thing to help with any addiction!!
