Why is gender identity a disorder? I know it has to hinder the ability to function normally in society and all that jazz, but what if I'm comfortable with myself?

This a quote about it of off "conditions and disorders".

"In adolescents and adults, the disturbance is manifested by symptoms such as a stated desire to be the other sex, frequent passing as the other sex, desire to live or be treated as the other sex, or the conviction that he or she has the typical feelings and reactions of the other sex."

Yeah, so? What did they call feminine revolution back then? They went against soceity as well. I don't understand why clothes have to matter so much. I have such a hatered for this "proffessional" look...why can't people be "real"? My baggy clothes, piercings, and eventual tatoo sleeves only make up who I want to see myself as ....(?), not my capabilities. I don't really like chivalry either if I can't return it.

I don't know if you will, but try not to comment on ow immature I am, I just wanna know if any peeps feel the same. Dang, this was a lot more aggressive than I had intended it to be...I skipped around and have a huge load of anger around it.

Ok, where to start??

Gender in and of itself is not a disorder. Just because a male wants to wear female clothes or vice-versa really has no bearing on a persons gender.

Gender Identity Disorder or Gender Disphoria or Transsexualism is a different phenomena. For a person who happens to be Transsexual/GD/GID, the clothes are very much a secondary thing. What it is about is identity, you know, who am i? what am i? That sort of thing, and for transsexuals that means that they are the opposite gender to what there bodies are.

A good but simplified way of looking at this is:
Sex: The biological sex of a person
Gender: I am a man, I am a woman
Sexuality: i am hetero/homo/bisexual

Contrary to what some feminists have said, gender is something a person's born with and not something that is indoctrinated. I should know, i am transsexual!!

I guess it's the idea that something is "wrong" with that kind of inner struggle; I just wish society would let people be the way they are. I am glad though, that there are psychologists out there that can help sort out body verses gender and the "who I am" part, cuz that can be difficult to deal with alone, and against the grain. I'm just a solid tomboy who's sick of being told to "grow up."

"I don't want to change the world, I don't want the world to change me..." good old ozzy, lol.

Thanks for explaining some of that, and your support.
Take care

Hi
I do think people struggle when they come across someone who doesn't fit into there stereotypical view, especially when it comes to gender expression. To them, boys should look like X, and girls should look like Y, and not the other way round.
For myself i am a girl who looks like Y, but unfortunately i was born in a male body. For yourself, a girl who looks like X, but everyone else thinks you should look like Y.
Personally i would never tell someone to grow up because of how they choose to look, however they ID themselves. That is entirely up the individual, and not up to anyone else.

Be yourself

There is a saying in Germany regarding BDSM

If you get a light spanking but afterward find yourself puking and ridden with guilt and shame, it's a bad thing. If you have yourself suspended from hooks and afterward feel awesome and full of life, it's a good thing.

Gender Identity becomes a disorder when it makes you feel miserable, If it doesn't, awesome. More power to you.

Isn't the disorder caused by being so indoctrinated into being who we don't want to be and later find that we still desire to be other than what we're forced into being?
