OMG I’ve had one of the most embarrassing moments of my parenting career! When I got home from work today I saw that the puppy had gotten into the trash. I started picking up the debris and I found a condom.
I jumped to the conclusion that it belonged to my youngest son (will be 18 in a couple weeks). My husband was at work so I sent him a text message letting him know what was going on. My son was at his girlfriends so I called him and told him to come home. When he got home I tried to remain calm and discuss the issue with him. I went into the morals he was raised with, the fact that his girlfriend is only 16 that I was hurt and angry that he didn’t talk to us. General venting. He genuinely did not seem to know what I was talking about. In the mean time my husband texted me back. “A condom fell out of the drawer before I left for work this morning. I couldn’t find it and I was running late. Look for the wrapper, if you can’t find it we’ll have to bring the dog to the vet.” __________________ I've been married for 24 years and have four wonderful children. |

Yeah it’s funny now! Luckily we have a good relationship. He was initially offended (rightly so) that I had jumped to the wrong conclusion. I asked him to look at it from my point of view. What would he think if he came home from work to the same situation? He decided that he would have thought the same thing.
Funny but too embarrassing to tell anyone irl. __________________ I've been married for 24 years and have four wonderful children. |

Now the opportunity is open to check with son whether he's carrying a condom as he leaves the house

I am confident that he will use condoms when he becomes sexually active. There is too much on the line for him to make this decision lightly and he knows it. Not only is sexual contact illegal in this state and enforced in this county and surrounding ones but he has an MOS in the Marines that he would lose should even an accusation be made.
I am a realist, when he does become sexually active there is nothing I can do about it. I’ve raised him well and hope he makes good decisions. __________________ I've been married for 24 years and have four wonderful children. |

If it was his I would be glad it was a condom wrapper and him not coming home to say "Mom you're going to be a grandmother". I understand your fears although he is getting to an age where you can't really stop him, and he should know by now the consequences and all that good stuff.
Funny story though, I love how it has to come back on you lol. I bet he thought that was hilarious. |

The puppy is fine. We've all recovered from the situation. There was an uneasy moment at his graduation because he told the story to his gf's parents.
