So I have recently started up a new relationship with a man in his late twenties and we have had some problems with intercourse. We have spoken a lot about some issues he has had with his most recent ex, a situation he still holds a lot of guilt for but is trying to get over. He is able to become erect, that isn't the problem at all. It seems to happen into intercourse when he says he loses control and feels similar to when youre going to faint and he loses his erection. He has not been able to reach orgasm in the 10+ times we have tried. He is currently looking to get professional counseling to help with his emotional issues but I wondered if there is any advice for what I could do to help him as his current partner.

Hello! The only suggestion I have off hand is to be patient with him--and try to be supportive. Has he been to a regular doc to make sure he doesn't have some sort of health problem?

He might need to see a professional sex therapist - AASECT - Member Directory is the resource to locate one.
He also needs to have his GP know of the problem because there might be a physical issue - he reports feeling as if he were about to faint. It MIGHT be anxiety-related, but it also MIGHT have a physical cause, so the GP needs to be informed. The most important thing for you is to make sure you do not feel responsible for his problem. Also, he should give you non-phallic sex. That seems obvious, but just mentioning just in case. Good luck! |
