I don't think the topic will ever come up, but I'd be rather open to telling my friends that I identify as bi. I work at a college and I think even some of the students would benefit from having a mentor who identifies as bi, but it's not like I want to come out, per say. And it's not really appropriate in that venue either. Any suggestions? I think I'm in the pride stage of development

I'm bi as well, and as of last Sunday, I am out to all my friends and family. It was hard, it was scary...especially since my family and a few of my friends are really conservative. But I did it, and I'm glad I did. Everyone accepted me. My family was most upset about it, but they got over it with time. It feels really good to not have any secrets anymore.

I suggest you start slowly. Tell the people you're most certain will be supportive. You can mention it casually ("Gay rights mean a lot to me, because I'm bi.") or you can make it a formal affair ("There is something I would like to tell you, because I don't like keeping secrets from my friends. I am bisexual. I hope that you will accept me as I am, and will realize that I am the same person I have always been.")

Good luck!

As for the students at college, you don't have to come out to them. But some of the faculty at my school put up "LGBT safe space" signs on their office doors, which indicate that they support LGBT rights and are willing to help students with LGBT issues. Maybe you could do something similar?

Thanks for the suggestions! I actually already have one of the safe zone stickers on the outside of my door. I guess that's a good start. The other suggestion is a good one too! Thank you!
