I think this might be medication related too. My penis becomes erect as usual, but it is too hard and it means that it is less susceptible to friction so orgasming is impossible unless i am masturbating, and even then it takes a lot of effort. Anyone experienced this? Also, is this affecting my partner's experience?

IT.

You assume that being harder makes it less susceptible to friction but that opposite of what I've always believed. Being harder can make it slightly larger and increase friction as well as actually bringing the glands/nerves closer to the surface, increasing sensitivity.

Alas, many psych meds have the nerve dampening effect that helps with psych issues but hinders sexual issues. It's a balancing act. What meds are you taking?

BTW, as long as your partners can hang with you, it might be better for them; physically speaking. Maybe they can go for multiples?

I suppose it's possible that they might be emotionally bothered and think you're not turned on by them but if you assure them that your meds have this effect, hopefully they will understand. Your great erection should be a good sign to them!

I'm not assuming it, I'm living it.

I was on so me non-psych meds which had this affect, then I stopped them and am taking some herball pills to boost my libido . . . but I haven't taken any for a little while and now i have this affect which is very similar to what I was experiencing on the non-psych med.

You need to 1) see your GP about the problem itself and 2) ask the partner directly about whether this is affecting her experience.

I don't want to see my doctor in case he examines me by making me sustain an erection in front of him. Is that what he will do?

If your doc can do that he has a very bright future Do you take propranolol? Priapism is a possible side effect of that drug although strictly speaking this isn't priapism.
BTW I agree with you that the harder the surface the less the friction. Physics

Nobody seeems to take this problem seriously. I have been looking all over the internet and there's just joke replies, people who say that it's a positive, etc. I know I need to see a doctor about it and not rely on internet advice, but it would be helpful it people treated this like a real problem.

It can be serious, I am sorry. Do see a doctor about it. It is also, I have been told, very painful.

Would additional lube help with the friction problem?

IT - if you have a family doctor he won't have to examine you when the penis is erect. Let me ask you a couple questions:
How long has this been happening?
Any new medications?
Have you ever injured your penis?
When its erect, does it have a curve?
Does it hurt when erect?

Yes this can be a medical problem so tell a doctor and see what's causing this. Explain this isn't the typical hardness and its causing problems. If the doctor scoffs then explain this isn't funny to you. Here's a website that might be helpful:

IT, is it so hard to understand why some of us don't know if you are serious?
Your libido is too low... your libido is too high... you're a virgin... you're not a virgin etc etc. It's hard to keep up and it's hard to tell when you're serious.
It's just... hard
Let me ask you a serious question. Do you understand the mechanics of this problem? I mean do you understand the temporary physical changes that happen to make a penis erect?

Why would it be helpful if anonymous internet users treated this like a real problem? How would that replace medical attention? Just think about the time you have spent looking all over the internet - you could have already solved the problem (possibly) by talking to a doctor (urologist, probably).

You are getting joking replies because in general hard penises are a good thing (hence the mention of the positive), but at age 35 you already know that in general hard penises are a good thing, so why do you get surprised by the joking responses?

People on here have mentioned priapism and other SERIOUS issues, so your problem has been taken seriously - the only person who is not taking this problem seriously (on this thread) is YOU - you should go see a doctor, which would be the only way to take this problem seriously.

Yes I was a virgin and then I wasn't. This is not an uncommon occurence.

I understand the mechanics.

Medical and surgical management of priapism

a very good overview article, listing, among other things, drugs that cause priapism

and yes, the specialty that treats those issues is urology. So if you can go see a specialist directly, without referral (I do not know how it works in AU), make an appointment with a urologist, bypassing GP/family DR.

So you do not have priapism - that is good.

The point remains that you have some kind of a urological condition that needs more medical attention that it is currently getting.
