I'm a thirteen year old girl, but it doesn't feel like I'm doing things right. All of my friends and all the girls I know wear fake tan and are into make up and stuff. I never wear make up and don't bother doing my hair, it's always up because its too thick to do anything with it. Sometimes, as a joke, my friends are like 'You're such a boy' and 'How are you today dude?'. I know you're probably thinking that I'm crazy and that it's just hormones and stuff but I know it's different. I get this urge that I'm not cut out for this girl stuff, I should be a boy. Sometimes I believe I am just nothing. When my late mother went for her scan to find out my gender, they said I was male, and when I came out a girl, they were shocked. And my mom had a miscarriage before hand. When I had grown up, she had told me that she had been experiencing some of the same effects she had during the miscarriage which makes me think I'm some sort of deformity or whatever. Do I even have a gender? Ughh.

Well, first of all, you're thirteen years old. It would be incredibly strange if you were not confused about everything right now. I know you think you "know it's different" but so does every teenager.

Secondly, just be who you are. Why do you need to label who you are? Why do you need to fit into a mold. Just be the person you are. Not all girls are girly.

In time, you will come to realize more fully who you are. The next 4 years of your life are the most crucial to developing your identity. It won't be easy, but just try to be yourself.

With time you will figure yourself out. You still have a lot of time to develop. Your friends are just giving you a hard time, because you may be slightly different. Teenagers do that. It is a way of discovering your identitiy. To start putting label and putting people in categories. It will happen a lot over the next few years, but then it won't matter. You will discover you are a person like none other. You have your own likes, dislikes and style. That is your identity and it is yours to figure out. It won't come from someone else, no matter how hard they try to label you or critize you. Learn to be yourself and what you like and don't.
