People tell me that not all LGBT are the same and not everyone fits into stereotypes, but I don't generally meet someone who wasn't a "flamer" or very obviously gay. In my Speech class there are three different members of LGBT and none of them "look" or "act" like the stereotypes you see on TV. I'm not saying this is a bad thing at all, but it took me as surprise because if they never said anything you would have had no idea they were gay.

Does anyone else find this interesting? I find it so interesting. I have many gay friends but most of those people are very "out there" and sometimes in your face about it, so it was interesting to see LGBT who weren't the stereotypes.

Most of the people I know who are LGBT don't portray any of the stereotypes. Like anything else dealing with stereotypes, you get those that fit the definition to a T and those that don't.

I know people on all sides of the spectrum. One of my friends you would never think was gay, she really seemed like the classic Suzy-Homemaker. I've known guys also that seemed more like muscle-head tough guys than the stereotypical flamer.

Of course, then I know people who completely live up to the stereotypes as well.

I find it strange (yet interesting) that people are so stereotypical about LGBTs, but honestly, none of my LGBT friends are even close to the stereotypes that people like to place upon them. I'm admittedly one, too, and I don't think that I'm anywhere near a stereotypical LGBT. Of course, it would help if I heard a few of them, but I don't think that being open about it puts a label on you that you have no self-confidence (one girl in my English 2 class told me that being open about being LGBT was just as bad as cutting yourself in front of lots of other people).

I don't think I know any stereotypical LGBT people, well, maybe one guy... but with the rest of the people, if I didn't know they were not straight, I would have never thought otherwise.

I'm asexual and know a few other asexuals, but I don't think we really HAVE any stereotypes to fit into, lol.

On the other hand, I have met some bisexual guys (yes, they exist!) who act no different from their stereotypically straight counterparts, and I have met some guys and girls who you would swear were gay, but who honestly weren't.

I know a lot of people assume I'm bisexual upon meeting me for some reason.

I might trow some gay ish joke time to time but thats cause people just find it funny and thats all. All my gay friends or people i meet is pretty much straight acting.

I have over the years worked with different LGBTs who you would not likely think of as being Gay unless you got to know them really well. I became good friends with a couple of them over the years, good people both. I also have a gay cousin, again it would not be something spotted without knowing the guy. In the end the vast majority of people in this world regardless of sexual preference, race, religion, gender identity, etc... are decent, honest folk trying to make their way in the world as best they know how, and for that I cannot really understand all the discrimination and hate, are we really that different at the heart of everything?
