I'm curious to know if people have ever thought about hypersexuality and if so what do they think it means?

It is mainly a controversial name for one of the manifestations of mania or hypomania in bipolar disorder. Controversial because:

- there is no consensus on what the norm should be, at baseline,
- people are so widely different in the sexuality department that... well, you get the point.

I actually just came up with the name on my own, I just saw it referenced to in a thread here and got curious. Perhaps I should ask about the link between hypersexuality and addiction.

Addiction to sex is anothet highly controversial subject (as is any use of the concept of addiction outside of substances such as nicotine or heroin). So you are basically trying to determine if there is a connection between one poorly defined and controversial subject and another poorly defined etc. Etc...

fwiw, bipolar hypersexuality resolves once the person comes down to the baseline, and in the depressive phase, any sexuality can be hard to muster, let alobe hypersexuality. These fluctuations are not consistent with what the sex addictions model posits to be true.

What is your personal belief about sexuality?

I have been told by every guy I've ever been with that I'm hypersexual. I don't know if it's because of my bipolar or what. All I know is that when I'm in a relationship I want sex all the time. When I'm not then I just shut down those feelings. But who decides what's normal when it comes to sexual frequency? When in a relationship I will settle for 3 times a day but prefer closer to 10. I have found I do have a max and that seems to be around 18 - 20 times in a day. Any more than that and I get too sore to enjoy it.

I will be the first to admit that I use sex to feel better. With my bipolar I spend most of my time down and I mean really really down. Sex makes me feel better and makes me feel connected to the person I'm with which makes me feel better. I'm also not a highly affectionate person so I also use sex to show the person I'm with how much I want them and care about them. Plus let's face it it's just plain old fun.

I figure as long as the other person can keep pace no harm no foul.

That it is complex and varies greatly from person to person.

I find this interesting. So I have a issue that connects to this. My partner and I have been together 6yrs, and I have no issue getting her off. But when it comes to me I don't want to be touched. Before I was with her I went through a period of excessive drinking and getting girls off wherever I was. A bar, school, car you name it, but still don't touch me

Well, at least one human gets to touch you. Eventually there might be more, but for now one is a good number.
