Has anyone experienced a thunderclap headache during sex?
Quote:
A headache is called "thunderclap headache" if it is severe in character and reaches maximum severity within seconds to minutes of onset.
Thunderclap headache - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Last week while I was fapping, it felt like somebody hit me on the top of my forehead and spread outwards in just a few seconds. Then it receded into a regular headache that lasted a day.

A couple of days later the headache started to happen again when I was fapping, but I stopped and the headache receded without getting bad.

I'm trying to decide if this is a sexual headache or something else. Sexual headaches are usually harmless.

X123, your body is your friend. Maybe it is telling you what it needs and what it does not need.

Energy headaches can occur when blocking energy.

You might try yoga, it can be helpful in rebalancing the body energies.

It is a sexual headache. I get those from time to time. It is harmless. However, mine would not last a day.

learned a new slang word from you - "fapping".

What I would do is start a spreadsheet and record each instance of masturbation, whether you had a headache (Yes/No), and if the answer is Yes, then the duration. So column A date, column B Yes/No, column C, optional, duration. After a couple of months you would see a pattern, and if you are still concerned at that time, set up an appointment with a neurologist and bring a printout of the spreadsheet with you.

Fapping?

I've heard of this before and can't remember what the deal was with them. I've heard of women who pretty much can't have sex because of the debilitating headaches they get from it.

I think Hamster-Bamster is correct. You need to get a log of them and see the doctor to get checked out.

Fapping?

That's an interesting angle. I took one session of an easy yoga class for older people, but it was a bit too complicated for me. I stretch every day for 30 minutes, because this makes my back and neck hurt less. Once in a blue moon, I try to meditate.

I'm just an uncoordinated, middle-aged bumpkin. I try to take care of my body, but I have my limits.

Thanks, Hamster-bamster and Webgoji. The spreadsheet is a good idea. I know the neurologists often request those kind of records, so this will be useful if I decide to see a neurologist later. I am going to try to abstain from fapping for a while. I'm not sure how that will work, but I will try.

LOL, I like the term "fapping". It's my vocabulary word of the week.

Do you warm up before stretching? I am asking because warming up before stretching makes stretching both safer (by much) and probably more enjoyable, as warm muscles allow a larger range of motion. Swimming also helps with neck pain. Actually, some people who have tension headaches get relief from swimming because the way the body is positioned - spine, then the neck, and then the head with face down - relaxes the muscles in all the right places. You do not need to swim fast - what matters is the form (alignment) and not the velocity. If you get bored, buy a waterproof ipod shuffle on Amazon and listen to music while you swim. This is just a general recommendation - since you mentioned a "regular" headache in OP.

From what I've heard, thunder clap headaches can be very dangerous and should send you to the ER.

Thanks I usually stretch in the evening before I go to sleep, so my muscles are somewhat warmed-up, but I'm sure it would be better if I did something specifically to warm up.

I took some swimming classes in college (30 years ago). It is hard for me to move symmetrically, so I keep hitting the lane dividers. It's especially embarrassing if there are other people sharing the lane. My skeleton is somewhat crooked and twisted, and I suspect that makes it hard for me to swim symmetrically. I've thought about setting up a camera, so I can see what I'm doing wrong and correct it.

I used to like swimming, but I'm so bad it's embarrassing. That's it in a nutshell.

I'm not sure what to do. If I had any confidence in the doctors where I live, I would like them to check me for brain tumors, weak blood vessels, etc. I'm so pessimistic about the medical system. As an example, the last time I went to the doctor because I was having headaches and nausea after exercising. The doctor told me I needed to take antidepressants. I also mentioned being tired and wondered if I have low testosterone. The doctor said I have facial hair, so that means I have plenty of testosterone. (My sister is an MD, and I told her about that remark. She was amused.) BTW another doctor told me my headaches and nausea might be due to drinking water instead of gatorade. That fixed my problem mostly.

So I know that if I go to the doctor, they will waste my time with some tests. Then at the end, they will tell me there is nothing wrong with me except depression, but I won't believe them. I suppose I should try anyway.

giving antidepressants for headache and nausea after exercise... so dumb

switching to gatorade - a much smarter advice, but no the smartest one. There are so many electrolyte solutions available on the market that are better than gatorade. Just research the issue, try different flavors, and settle on what is most pleasing to you.

Thanks, Hamster-bamster. Sobe used to have an electrolyte drink that I liked (20 years ago).

I find that it is hard to even drink water when I'm depressed. I pour a glass of water, but for some reason I can't make myself drink it. I buy a coke and drink a few sips and pour it out. I know I need water, but something in me doesn't want to drink it. I like drinking water. It's weird how the simplest things can seem like climbing a mountain when you are depressed. Luckily I'm not depressed constantly. I have good days and bad days.

I don't know if abstaining from sexual activity is going to work for me. I don't have much libido, but when I'm really depressed like yesterday looking at pretty women on my computer is one of the few things that perks-up my brain a little bit. Exercise is the ultimate cure for me, but it is hard to have the motivation for exercise if I get too depressed. Sometimes if I fap, then the next day I feel more motivation to exercise and then I can break-out of the depression again. My sex life is nothing to write home about LOL, but it seems to help with depression sometimes. The headaches make me too afraid to fap, and depression is harder to manage now.

BTW Just wanted to add, that my fapping sessions probably are too long in duration. I am somewhat of a sex addict. Moderation would help. I try to be moderate, but often I fail. It is like an alcoholic trying to drink moderately I imagine.

I cannot drink plain water unless I have walked a 5K and am exhausted. So I drink mineral water. Sometimes I mix in a bit of juice - 1:6 or 1:8 even. It tastes good without adding much sugar. Mineral water is not an electrolyte drink, but still, it is as good at hydrating you as plain drinking water if not better.

I am glad this topic came up. Dehydration is a MAJOR source of headaches. I do not think you will fix the issue with fapping until you fix the issue with hydration. Try different things - vitamin water, smart water, coconut water, mineral water, and all of the above with flavorings, tea, coffee in moderation, etc. There is no point in talking about headaches if you are not properly hydrated most of the time. When you fix this problem, you might want to try drinking tea (several cups) before fapping to see if it works. But still, dehydration and skipping meals and sometimes uneven caffeine levels in the blood are major major triggers of headaches.

Do you work in the office or from home?

Sorry to be slow to respond. Sometimes I don't get email notifications.

I live in an apartment above the warehouse/office where I work. My brother and I own the small business, and I do the bookkeeping and 24/7 phone answering.

On the mineral water, you should be careful. For a month or two I worked at a job that had free drinks. I was really stressed and drank mineral water somewhat compulsively. I got a kidney stone, and I suspect the mineral water caused it. I haven't touched mineral water since that time, and I haven't had another kidney stone.

I agree the hydration is very important. I am doing a little better with depression and drinking water this week (probably because I decided to try masturbation and see if the thunderclap headache returned - it didn't).

I am still a little worried that I might have a weak blood vessel in my brain, but I probably won't go to the doctor unless I get another scary headache like that.

I do think my masturbation goes too long. It's a waste of time and it usually makes my back and neck hurt. I much prefer going to sleep early and getting a massage from my cat.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that licorice tea might have been a factor. Licorice has some antidepressant chemicals. Antidepressants interfere with orgasm. I drank a licorice tea immediately preceding the thunderclap headache. Maybe it was coincidence though.

I hate licorice tea with passion - not just straight licorice tea, but even a tea whose recipe (formulation) has a loooong list of ingredients with licorice being at the end - I still sense the presence of licorice and would not drink it. So at least this confirms that one might get orgasm headaches without licorice. You still might have gotten it from licorice, but that they can happen without it is for sure and I have decades of experiencing them from time to time to prove it.

Mineral water varies a lot by mineral content and in the past some varieties were actually used to treat medical conditions, including kidney stones, but that was a while ago. The content of mineral water varieties, at least on mineral water coming from Europe where mineral water used to be a cornerstone of medical treatment, not only varies a bit, but sometimes varies so much that the effect of mineral water A is the opposite of the effect of mineral water B.

That means that if you like mineral water, there might be a variety on which you would do well, but if you do not want to risk further damage, experimenting without dr's input (urologist's input) won't be safe. Unfortunately, American drs are usually not trained enough to give advice on mineral water, so pretty much this means that you cannot drink it anymore.

Thanks. I didn't realize there were differences in mineral water. It is interesting that mineral water can treat kidney stones, but like you said I don't think it would be wise to experiment without some guidance.
