I feel like it's like I can't express myself... my mind may be androgynous but my anxiety stops me of dressing in the way i want to. I keep thinking my family will think i'm weird but that's not the only problem. I also feel like i have some type of sensory problem wear certain clothes make me uncomfortable when i try to wear them. I may like how certain clothes look but can't wear them... and so I dont get to express myself well with the clothes I wear and that's very frustrating. I find myself just dressing just simple.. I wish I didnt have this problem. I feel like im a gender neutral or androgynous person inside but can't express it because of anxiety and sensory problems, since certain textures annoy me. I often wonder if I have some autistic traits.

Spec, I am not sure how I can be of assistance. However, I understand the texture thing. I would advise if you know that there is a texture you like for say underwear, find that kind of underwear and go with that. I hope I am not reading anything between lines here and something like underwear is something that is just known to you, unless you don't do your own laundry. It would give you less anxiety, knowing no one can see it but it would help you with your desire to have an identity of your own.

Greetings, Spectrolite7! I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with being comfortable in your clothing. This is something I also struggle with, but for a different reason - I am not happy with my weight, and how I look in clothing because of it. Since our clothes are usually the first thing the rest of the world sees about us, it is frustrating when you don't look like you feel. Hugs.
I work for a clothing retailer, and we have some customers who's kids have autism and have sensory issues with certain fabrics. So I'll tell you what I tell them: Find out which fabrics work and which don't. Maybe you thrive in 100% Cotton, but anything with spandex makes you feel uncomfortable. Maybe you love Cotton/Polyester blends, or maybe blended fabrics are a no-go. Whatever your preferences, figure out what works and what doesn't. Once you know that, then you can shop around for new items. Most retailers will list the fabric makeup right on the product description page (if shopping online) or you can just look at the tag inside the garment. I hope this helps! As far as worrying about what your family/friends will think, maybe this is something you need to ease into slowly. Just get a few new items at a time, not a total wardrobe overhaul in one day. (It's too expensive, at least for me, to just replace all my clothes at once anyway.) Eventually, as you add new items, get rid of or donate ones that you no longer like or wear very often. After some time, you'll have built a wardrobe you feel good in. __________________ "When you trust yourself, you will know how to live." -Goethe |
