Hey I have a friend he hasn't had a girl friend in 3 years, hangs out mostly with other guys, stays at my house a lot and we go out a good bit too. He's also been asking me a lot lately if I've found a girlfriend and when we were camping with my family last weekend he wanted to sit by me around the fire, when we were eating and when we went on a haunted hayride. We're both 19 and pretty manly we hunt fish and he played a few sports in highschool... With that being said though he always takes pictures of him self for Facebook or Instagram and wears nice clothes, at the campground he had buckle jeans and a polo shirt on. Then after that we went to Walmart to buy a tree stand and he was talking about me being fruity because I was drinking a fruit drink, we pick like that a lot but I called him a fag and this time it seemed to really hurt his feelings. I don't know if he's coming out or what but lately I have developed feelings for him and would be happy if he liked me back lol. What do you think is he gay/bi and if so should I try to talk to him seriously. Thanks

All else aside, if you hurt his feelings and you care for him, you should apologize. Why don't you start with that and see where the conversation leads?

Well you definitely shouldn't use those stereotypes to try to see if he's gay because honestly there are sooo many different spectrums that people are on that at this point it's really difficult to pin people down by those types of things. From what you're saying- he doesn't really seem gay to me. Hanging out with mostly guys is actually more of a straight trait than a gay trait. Maybe more details? More on the way you guys interact than his hobbies and IG behaviors lol.

I agree with FNMM on this...there is no magic formula to figure out if someone is gay. Who you hang out with, how you dress, how you talk, etc...none of those are real indicators.
For example, two people I thought were gay when I was younger turned out to be straight...married women and had kids. Me on the other hand, everyone thinks/believes I'm straight...I'm married and have kids....but I've been gay my whole life. No I'm not in denial...I've always accepted my homosexuality. But when I came out to some of my friends...they were all surprised that I am gay. Be supportive of whatever your friend is. Don't assume...communicate. |

I'm just a bit confused here. Are you gay or bi? And are you afraid to come out to him and worry that he's not what you hope? If so, that's a tough one, maybe one of the toughest spots to be in. But don't base it all on stereotypes and words guys say to one another. Be confident in who you are first.
