I believed that I am straight girl for the past 23 years but out of blue I started enjoying lesbian shows and dramas. I even started imagining my life around a girl. I used to mastrubate to straight sex then but all of sudden I couldn't do it. What's my sexual orientation? I'm really confused.

My background: I'm from India compounded with a consevative family. I used to check on women but I don't remember checking them out in a sexual way and I've really low self esteem and never been in a relationship with any sexes.

Also does lack of emotional connect or any other psychological issues have influence over sexual orientation ?!

Hello nelsonssparrow: Welcome to Psych Central.

I don't believe I would be able to suggest to you what your sexual orientation may be. (Perhaps other PC members may have some thoughts they'll wish to share.) From my perspective I think this is something you may need to delve into with the help of a therapist who has experience working with individuals who have sexual orientation concerns.

You also asked if lack of emotional connect or any other psychological issues have influence over sexual orientation. And, here again, this is not something I would be able to address with any authority. My inclination would be to say no, sexual orientation is something you're born with not something that develops as a result of your mental health status or emotional connection to others. But that's just my personal thought on the subject. I'm certainly no expert on such matters.

I hope you find PC to be of benefit.
