Okay I have tryed the meditation, bought the Johnson and Johnsons baby lotion even the body wash....and still cant sleep. I was admitted to the county hospital for a few days because I was cisplaying some psychotic behaviors from NOT sleeping. They ended up giving me some Versaid to try n' help me relax enough to sleep. Which worked but you're not suppose to take alot of that when you are pregnant (it slows down the babys heart rate). So they discharged me with taking a 175mgs of Benadryl at night before I try to go to sleep and its just NOT enough my body doesn't fall asleep with it. AHHHHHH....I'm seriously running out of options. Its extremely simple if I don't get my sleep I WILL have hallucinations and those aren't fun by no means. Does anyone have any other ideas. I NEED sleep.

Tmac,

I took a quick peek at your bio and since you are pregnant and might be on some other meds, it's going to be real important for you to keep in touch with the doctor on this one. The relaxation stuff like the warm baths, meditation and music are helpful, and the only thing the doc would let me take when I was pregnant was Benadryl. Make sure you are not taking too much of it cuz it will have the opposite effect on you and make you zombie like. I wish I had some better ideas for you.

Yeah, I heard that too. That after a certain amt of Benadryl it has the reverse effect and wakes you up.

Only way I can fall asleep these past 3 weeks is taking 2 temazepam, but then I need 1 lorazepam to keep me asleep. Didn't take the latter and I woke up at 3:30 this morning. But, I'm not sure if you're allowed to take benzos when pregnant. Probably not or they would have prescribed them. So sorry you can't sleep. What about triptophan. Maybe you already tried that, but it's the stuff in bananas and turkey and there are supplements for it that concentrate it. Also melatonin. To be honest, those have never worked for me, or eating carbs either. But maybe the combo of all that and the relaxation stuff would help.

Wish I knew more. Take care.

I forgot about melatonin. I use it sometimes, disolving it under the tounge. It's not very strong and I'm not sure it would help you. But doesn't hurt to try. I still think you'd best keep buggin' the doc.

What works for me is I set my TV timer to go off in 15 minutes and turn the channel to PBS news or another news channel but my favorite is PBS because it is kind of boring to begin with. Listening to some boring news story will distract my mind from any problems that I could be stewing on. I have a fan going also so that produces some white noise to drown out the dogs and the chickens. I usually drink a cup of green tea after dinner also and I like a cookie for a treat because I have so few vices.

Don't fret about it! They've done studies and looking at the clock, etc. causes you to do worse. Turn the clock away from you so you can't see what time it is.

I have a lavender shampoo from the health food store. I also occasionally use the regular, more sedating allergy meds and my Pepcid Complete helps if I'm having sniffles/problems with drainage/GERD. The calcium helps. I often wake a bit hungry too so having a nice slice of cinnamon toast can satisfy me and help me sleep. Here, check this out:

Dear tmac, I heard you loud and clear. Do you know that there are actually, otherwise very bright, psychiatrists who do not realize that sleep deprivation, in sufficient amounts, actually causes delusions and/or hallucinations? You got lucky in being treated with Versaid. I'm not sure what that is, but it doesn't sound like an antipsychotic. I was treated with an antipsychotic when I went in with simple sleep-deprivation-related delusions. And, Oh, the side effects! Unnecessary. Perhaps this didn't happen to you due to the pregnancy [which I infer from your post]. I could respond better to you if not for the pregnancy, since I know that many drugs are dangerous during this time. Try lying on one side, propping up a book with the downside arm and reading until you stop being preocupied with not sleeping. That worked wonders for me until I was required to get reading glasses. Lying on one side in reading glasses, causes them to become too askance for reading, and the constant readjustment throws off the sleep-reading technique. There are reasonably good sleeping medications - don't take around time of meals - such as Ambien CR and Lunesta, but I don't know if your baby doc would approve - probably NOT! You might also try Melatonin. If this hasn't worked for you in the past, simply increase the dosage. It's a nutritional supplement. You might also ask baby doc about this, though. At this point, everything about you seems like primarily a problem for the baby doc. You might tell him, though, that a psychotic state is not good for the baby, either. If you would like to discuss the nature of your delusions or hallucinations further, perhaps I could be of some help if you pm me. Johnson and Johnson's Baby Lotion?? What do you do, drink it?
