hello,

I am new here but just wanted to ask if anyone else has this problem I've been having.
I sleep deeply and dream a lot at night. Lots of bad dreams.

But the problem is waking up---5 nights out of 7 (or so) I wake up VERY abruptly. I either wake up gasping and panicked, or just sit straight up in bed, or I think someone's in the house or my leg is asleep (when it's not!) or that i'm supposed to be somewhere...
And i say weird things to my husband and jump up and ask what day is it? and what time is it ?!!?! and just feel freaked out.

I was just wondering if anyone else does this or knows why this happens? thank you!

Oh, this is so scary! I used to do this when my anxiety was at its worst. It could be physical though. If you have GERD, you may be refluxing acid, which can make your heart pound and is always the worst when you are lying down, in which case, elevating the head of your bed, taking a PPI such as Protonix, Prilosec, etc. may help. It also could be sleep apnea and your oxygen level is dropping, which makes your heart pump harder to get oxygen to your vital organs. Usually home health places that provide CPAP and oxygen equipment will test for free to see if your oxygen is dropping.

Good luck!
