Sometimes when I am asleep, I will wake up, see my husband and not know who he is. Once he was up on the computer when I woke up. I saw him but had no idea who he was. I knew he was married and that soon he and his wife would be coming to bed. I didnt know what I was going to do, because I didnt know if I were suppose to be there. I didnt know if they knew I was there or would I be in trouble for being there. I didnt know where I was really. How strange is that?

Just the other night my husband was going to work on third shift. He was waking me up to give me a kiss and tell me good night before he left. When he woke me up I panicked. I couldnt see who it was, I didnt know who he was. He said I started screaming and acting really strange. By the time he left I was awake enough to know who he was and I felt bad for responding to him in such a way. I try to explain to him that somtimes I see him and dont know who he is. It only happens at night though.

Do any of you ever experience this and told a Dr about it? What was there response on why it happens. How do you prevent these kinds of episodes from occuring? Thanks for any input!

My guess is that you are just still sort of asleep. Sometimes when I wake up I cannot remember if its day or night or what day it is...maybe its something similar. Your mind just isn't awake enough to know what's going on yet?!

I've had those experiences with meds too (pain meds) where I wasn't myself yet. That's one reason I got off the pain med, "someone" woke up in my body and then a few seconds later, I did :-)

When my sleep cycle gets really disrupted, I often wake up disoriented. Sometimes when I open my eyes, I don't recognize where I am and I am afraid to move until I figure it out.

I woke up after falling asleep on the couch one afternoon and the sun was setting. I thought it was morning, and I was running late, it sent me into a momentary panic.
