I have tried numerous sleeping medications and none of them work properly. I either don't sleep at all or I sleep too much. The latest sleep medication I was given left me hung over and stoned.

Does anyone know of any good sleeping medications that my doctor could prescribe for me? My body works slowly and it usually takes 2 hours before I feel the affects of the medications. So I take my night medications at 8 pm.

I don't know of any Zen, but if you find one let me know what it is. I would be interested myself.

Halcion has a short half life meaning it wears off quickly so you won't feel groggy all day. It may or may not keep you asleep long enough to feel rested. It used to be more popular than it is now; lots of elderly people have had side effects that were troublesome and at times dangerous. I took it for a month and I liked it. It is a benzodiazepine so it can be addictive and also the effects can wear off if you take it regularly.

I take Seroquel as my primary mood stabilizer and a high does of it so sleep isn't an issue for me. Sadly it can take a while to find a med that works with balance and of course each med you try will require getting to the right dose and working through side effects. Keep trying until you find what works the best. Sometimes meds aren't a cure but help. Good luck with finding a more stable sleep life.

Some I can and some cannot because they come in gel caps.

as a chronic insomniac, I've struggled years trying to find the right sleeping meds, and the only one that has ever worked for me is remeron. The only down side to it, is that it increases your appetite severely and has caused me to gain weight.. but it really does work to help you sleep. The only other med that sometimes helps me sleep is ativan but it's very addictive and not as effective if used for a long term period.

I hope you are able to find the right med soon and are able to get some sleep!

I take a nighttime sleep aid that you can buy at dollar general for $2. It works wonders for me and I do not have that med hangover the next morning.
