I've been battling insomnia all my life (even as a kid, took me hours to fall asleep). I was finally sleeping at night when I started taking remeron, but now that I got off it (because it made me eat like a horse and gain so much weight), I can't sleep at all. Zilch, nada, nothing. It's almost 4am and i'm still wide awake. My doctor said this new med, 'zeldox' would help me sleep and it won't cause weight gain. I slept the first night, but haven't been able to sleep the past two nights (even though I physically feel drained and tired), my mind is so wide awake. And I don't know if this is a side effect from the new med, but my fingers (mainly right hand) are stiff and hard to move or bend. It's like I'm losing the strength in them. So now I'm worried about that and I feel like a zombie from not sleeping. It's weird, I feel too tired to go downstairs and watch tv or read, but when I lay in bed, I feel so awake, it just doesn't make any sense.

Anyone know of any meds for sleep that do not cause weight gain or appetite increase and that you can mix with anti depressants and antipsychotics? I'm worried I won't sleep wed night and won't be able to do my thursday work shift (I only work one day a week and need this money to save up for school).

I hate this

I so know how you feel. I take temazapam to help me sleep and am at the top dose. I took an extra one last night and only got about 1 hour maybe of sleep and that was very broken up. I have been on so many sleeping pills...have you tried lunesta or ambien? I have heard and tried them...they didn't work for me, but everyone is different. I have also been on trazadone...sometimes morning is hard when first starting, but gets better.
Hope some of this helps, if not am sorry.
Hugs,
Jen

Gee, Amanda, I didn't get up until 4:30 this morning, made myself stay in bed until then. If I'd known you were up I would have gotten up :-) I don't stay asleep some nights.

I know what you mean about feeling too tired to get up but wide awake in bed. My thyroid med does that to me because I take two strengths.

I also have been batting insomnia my entire life. The first drug I tried was tempazapen and it only worked for a few nights in a row, then the insomnia began again. Ambien - same effects - worked for about 3 nights in a row and after that, the effectiveness decreased dramatically. Ambien also gives me SEVERE withdrawal symptons and intene rebound insomnia. I would NOT recommend Ambien. I have been taking Lunesta for several years and it's the only thing that has worked for me. It's great - give it a try. Of course, I still can't sleep when I don't take it. Good luck.

Thanks everyone.. I called my doctor today and just my luck, she's out of the country this week so the secretary told me to just take one pill a day instead of two, and if I still can't sleep, then to get off this new med and go back on remeron until my next follow up appt. I took some melatonin to help me sleep tonight.. hopefully it works, it used to sometimes help me sleep in the past, but then I became immune to it (as I do all sleeping pills).. not even 25mg of valium made me tired!

Do you know if lunesta is available (FDA approved) in canada yet? I know I had mentioned either that one or ambien to my doctor awhile ago and she said something about it not being available yet in canada, but that might have been a few years ago, so not sure if it is now.

I'm actually feeling somewhat tired tonight so I'm hoping... reallyyyy hoping I can sleep.

Thanks everyone for the support and advice.. I appreciate it
