This is my first post to this community and hopefully I am putting this in the right area.

Anyway, on to why I ask this question. Today, I took a nap and slept for about two hours mid day. There was nothing odd about this, as I frequently take midday naps (I sleep very little during the night). Well, it turns out, I had found out a bit later since I had no recollection of these events, that I had had a full conversation with my mother in my sleep. I found out about this when my mom had brought the conversation up later.

Now, I know, from other people telling me, that I frequently mumble in my sleep and talk to myself. But this time my mom said that I looked as though I were conscious. Supposedly I was keeping eye-contact and responding, though slowly, to each of her questions. She had said I looked drugged when I talked to her, and my eyes were glossy. I then promptly went to slept after the conversation ended, as she said. The thing is, I don't recall even talking to her during that time.

Now, I don't know what to make of this, I was wondering if someone here could help me out? If not, well... I'm definitely going to ask my therapist about this. Thanks!

Hello! Many people talk in their sleep, and even have full conversations, appearing to be fully awake. This is not terribly unusual, and is not too troubling in and of itself.
Do you take any medications, especially sleep meds? Sleep talking and walking can sometimes be a side effect.
It is a great idea to bring this up with your T, but I wouldn't be too worried over it right now. Thank you for sharing! ~Ivy

I know what you mean benvrus11! Having worked where I had to be on call I would get paged in the middle of the night and hold full conversations with others and not have the faintest idea about what I said the next morning! It is disturbing at times but that is the way our brain functions sometimes I guess.

Thank you for replying, Gr3tta and Skully. I realize that, though it might not be something I should worry about, I'm going to bring it up with my T. I just sort of feared that it might be some problem, maybe with dissociation or something. In all honesty though, it's just that I fear that I might talk too much in my sleep and say something I don't want to say, because I hear that people's subconscious self is more honest than their conscious self, let's just say that some of my secrets would best be kept secrets at this point in my life.

That is my main fear I think. But thank you guys so much for replying to my thread.

yeah i wouldn't worry about it. i used to sleepwalk and have conversations when i was under 5 years old and about 3 years ago i would answer phone calls and make plans with my sister and not remember doing it at all. i'd have to check my phone to see if she was just screwing with me or not, but i'd see a 10 minute call log.

just be aware of sleeping pills, as some of them have the side effect of walking/driving/sex/etc. in your sleep, so they could make the problem worse.
