in session yesterday, we went over a few of my dreams that i had about my therapist as well as some of my family members. my therapist believes that in every dream (the ones we talked about as well as ALL of my dreams in general) are always all about me, and every "character" in my dreams is me. so while it seemed like i was dreaming about my therapist for instance, that was actually a part of me - just projecting.

usually she is right on with stuff (interpretation or otherwise). we've been working together for a little while now, and i feel like she get's me. but yesterday, i was getting frustrated with her intrepretations, because i felt like, "no! i dreamed about you and it was actually you!"

anwyay, i was just wondering if anyone else had heard of this.. are all the people in our dreams really us? or is there another way to look at/intrepret dreams?

Yes, I have learned the same method of dream interpretation as your therapist but I think I see a chink in interpretation that may help you.

Yes, I believe everything in our dreams is about us. When I dreamed about my T, what she said/did/her appearance was in reference to and about me. However, one cannot be all the people in a dream at the same time I had a dream where I had my head in my T's lap and she was stroking my head. That was all about me but I was not both myself and my T at the same time, one can only look at one aspect of the dream at a time.

Yes, I would like to be comforted by my T-mother by having my hair/head stroked. If one looks at that, one can see that the desire to be mothered/comforted/loved has the opposite in it too; to desire it one has to have experienced it and know what it feels like, one has to have been a "mother"/comforter/lover to make the connection. Too, since it is my dream, I'm making the whole thing up in my head so taking care of myself, mothering, comforting, loving myself by creating this image in the first place. Therefore, I "am" a mother, comforter, lover, (therapist).

One of a therapist's main jobs is to "reflect" us to ourselves. They're kind of like a mirror. That's very much like the job of dream interpretation too. Our dreams are about us because we're the ones thinking them up. The "screen" of our mind/dream is the mirror of our unconscious experience. We go to T during the day and dream during the night. We are indeed "fearfully and wonderfully made" as the Bible says. (Psalm 139:14)

Hi,
There are many different "schools" of interpretations. However the best person to interpret the dream is the dreamer.
Dreams are responses to what happens to you in the sleep. Your dreams are your guardian angels. Many dreams are dreamt for entertainment and diversion. Your daily thoughts and deeds impact on your dreams as they are the easiest to access by the subconscious to create the dream storyline. However dreams change during the sleep according to the needs. Every internal or external influence changes the dream. Thus a dream can be taken for a walk by someone who has experience of wathing people sleep and dream. A fly landing on the dreamers face changes the dream.
