your body may have developed a dependence on the medication. this is similar to developing an addiction. you start out with one medication then as your body develops a tolerance for it the doctor adds another then another... until soon you need the meds to get some sleep. I recently went through this and almost needed to be hospitalized in order to get me off lunesta, ambien, and others. now Im on nothing. at first it was horrible but as time went on my natural body rhythm kicked back in. I still have insomniatic nights like tonight but after what I went through getting off the sleep meds, my doctor will not prescribe th em for me and I will not ask for them. I would rather sit up reading a book or surf around on the computer th en go through the no meds and withdrawal and feeling like I will never get sleep without my meds again feelings.
give it some time to adjust and your bodys natural rhythm will kick back in. in the mean time I suggest maybe keeping a supply of books, movies and websites that you like close by.
