I have many different dreams about elevators. They go up and down too fast in many of them. I always have a sense of fear but of also needing to use them to get place to place. I have a feeling it's about being out of control, but I'm not certain. Anyone have anything like this? What do you think these dreams mean?? I had a mild one last night, less scary than some.

What they mean to you, matters a lot more than what they might mean to anyone else. I'd say, first of all follow that hunch about being out of control.

I don't tend to remember all that many dreams but quite a few of mine have been about elevators. I usually feel as if the elevator is going to do whatever it's going to do, sometimes too fast or too slowly. It'll probably eventually get me somewhere near where I want to go, but I don't have as good control over it as I'd like.

My elevators often don't have a wall, just a platform, so I can see the walls of the shaft going by and I have to be careful not to stumble against them as the elevator lurches. I end up feeling as if I managed OK this time but I'm never sure about next time.

Occasionally there's someone in the building that I'm trying to get away from, so I'm hoping the elevator won't take me to whatever floor they're on.

No doubt my elevators are different from yours. Keep posting about yours.

Dang, I usually get stairs instead of elevators in my dreams!

I think the various levels of buildings are thought by many to correspond to levels of the "body" or personality; attics are the brain/intellect and basements are emotions or or the "gut"/sexual energy type stuff. But sounds like with yours, the speed is important, that you're changing from one thing to another too fast?

I often have a similar dream. The elavator is in a department store and I feel like I need to get to a more upscale department, but the elavator never works correctly. I suspect the dream represents a feeling of lack of control over ones' circumstances.

I have a recurring elevator dream. In my dream, I get in the elevator and instead of going up or down, it starts zooming horizontally all over the place and I don't know where I'm going and it's scary. I guess it goes up and down too.

I have the dream so much, that sometimes I refer to the dream IN MY DREAM. I'll be stepping into an elevator and thinking "thank god I'm awake and this isn't a dream" and then the doors close and the craziness starts and I AM in a dream.

In real life, I'm terrified of elevators because I'm super clausterphobic. I try to never ever go anywhere that will require me to use an elevator, and I'm willing to climb up any number of flights of stairs to avoid using one.

It's really interesting to me that other people have recurring elevator dreams too!
