Since the Summer of this year my sleep is all over the place. Sometimes I can function fine with only a few hours, other times I stay in bed as long as possible and have even taken days off just because of exhaustion. I've also had a nightmare almost every night for the last 2 months, it's very worrying for me and I'm wondering if I should try sleeping pills. Is that the right thing to do?

I would go to the doctor and get blood tests, etc. and make sure you don't have a physical problem like low thyroid or a vitamin deficiency, etc. There's plenty of physical reasons why one could develop a sleep problem like yours.

I agree with Perna, get physically cleared first and then talk to your therapists and/or psychiatrist. My sleep was like that when I was "actively" bipolar. Now that I am stable my sleep is fairly normal and all it takes is a cup of tea to help sleep! Best of luck!

Sleeping pills can be habit forming and you don't want to get hooked on them if there is an underlying physical or mental cause for your erratic sleep patterns.
You should definitely speak to your doctor before taking anything. |
