Okay, so I rarely have nightmares, and this is probably the first time I've woken up panicked in over a year.

The dream starts with me, a guy I don't know, and another woman in a church, at the side exit that leads out to the side of the church yard, and a house far enough away it's not necessarily connected with the church. We needed something from the house, but I don't remember what anymore.

The house was haunted, and it was night time, but the woman agreed that she'd be the one to go get the stuff. I went to the roof to watch her, and the man stayed at the door. When she approached the house I could see a spirit manifest. I think it was of a woman in pioneer clothing. The woman getting the stuff didn't notice, so I shouted at her "RUN!" as soon as I saw another, more hostile spirit appear. She just barley heard me because my voice was choked and I couldn't get enough air to shout.

When she ran, a large black bird came out of the house, and flew to the roof where I was at. I went to yell at it to go away, knowing that this wasn't just a bird. For a moment I thought it was a raven. Again, my voice didn't come. I tried to banish it as one banishes evil, and again, I could not get the air to speak. So I tried to shoo it away, and hit it, and it came at me and I realized it was not a raven, but a black swan.

I fell off the roof of the church, but landed with relatively no injury right by the door. I rushed inside the church, the swan right behind me and tried to bolt the door. The swan however burst in, and the image right before I woke up was that of the swan, bursting through the door I'm still trying to hold closed, attacking my face.

Another oddity about this dream was that it was about me and was from my perspective, something that never happens in my dreams!

I've been searching from dream interpreters and stuff since I woke up and can't find anything that really helps with this one. The main points for me are the loss of speech (from air I think) and movement in a time of great urgency, the black swan, the church, and falling off it, and not being able to have refuge in it, the woman and man, and the haunted house.

I don't know why I'm so worried about this, but it's really sticking in my mind. Any interpretation you could give would help, even if it's none to pleasant (and from this dream it's likely not). Thanks,

K-Love

This is totally my intuitive interpretation, no use of references or sources, so keep that in mind- I might not be "on" with this..but I'll try!

There are a couple symbols here that stand out- one being the church. Are you a member of a church or religious group? What are your feelings about them/it? Because you bolted back to the church, like it was a place of safety to get away from the black bird. That stood out for me.

I also have noticed when we have dreams where we can't yell for help (or speak, in your case) or lose the ability to run, it might be indicative of feeling helpless in some aspect of our waking life. Is there a person you know, or a current situation, that you want to help but have no control over in waking life? Also interesting that you were above everyone, on the roof. Sounds like an objective "point of view," where you are on the outside of a situation looking in (or down).

As for the bird...initially you thought it was a raven, but turns out it was a swan. I'm not going to go look up an animal meaning on the internet, because I've found animals represent different things to different people (for example, sharks/cats often symbolize evil/bad luck in dreams, but to me they are wonderful and I've even had pleasant dreams about riding on the backs of sharks! LOL). Ravens have a tendency to represent darkness and maybe even bad fortune, but your bird wasn't even a raven...I would think that black swans are rare, and perhaps the bird not being what you thought it was is indicative of something or someone fooling you in waking life (or a fear that this might happen?)

Well, I hope that helps. I might be totally off, this was just my opinion Overall theme could be related to spirituality (i.e. the church).

TealOrca,
Good insight! Thank you!

I'm sorry, I left out the most important part of the dream (just read over it). The name Saint Agostino. I'd never heard of the guy before, but that name kept ringing in my head even when I woke up. It doesn't really have much affect on the input you gave though, so I'm not that worried. (side note: I looked him up, and he's a minor catholic saint of i don't know what?)

Anyway, I know what you mean about animals meaning different things. I don't like doing dream interpretation from a book, I feel it doesn't quite line up.

I'm religious, but don't have any specific group I follow. Though I hate to admit it, my religious side has been a bit rocky lately. The fall I think might represent that now that I think of it. I use to be Christian, but found peace in a middle ground between a lot of different faiths. I still have a draw to churches though.

That makes sense for not being able to speak. Especially in my own defense. Yeah, there is a situation I'm in where I'm in it, but can't do more than just sit back and wait for a decision to be made about me. It's really annoying, although I thought I'd come to terms about it by just walking away.

The animal interpretation for me would be a raven = death, the lady death, but not necessarily a bad sign. Death isn't always a bad thing. A swan (plain ordinary white swan) to me represents grace and beauty but of a very human kind. Though when it turns black, I don't know. In the dream I knew it was a demon of some sort, or the embodiment of ill intent. It was definitely trying to kill me. Though my waking mind goes back to the time I was with a friend, and he got attacked by a swan protecting her young. I guess a black swan would be a poisoned kind of grace and beauty?

Thanks for the insight! I'm still open to other opinions, and I'm trying to figure out if it is a warning or something. I believe in messages that come in forms of dreams, though I didn't ever think I would get one. Maybe it's nothing, but it's something I can't quite shake.

The point about the swan attacking your friend reminded me that IRL, swans can be quite aggressive and nasty, even though we associate them with grace and beauty. And ravens are said to be intelligent, and their cousins', crows, are trainable. The other thing to keep in mind, is sometimes "death" isn't a bad thing at all metaphorically (especially in dreams)..sometimes it speaks to a new beginning/starting over. glad i was helpful!
