I had such an odd and terrible nightmare last night. I still cry about it when I think about it. I would really appreciate people's opinions and take on it. anyway.. here it goes.

I was walking around in an unknown area in the country and I found this poor horse.. it was black and dirty and starving. I love animals and want to rescue them for a living so I took the horse home with me. I brought it into my house and into our tiny bathroom to wash it up. I was trying to brush it's mane and it's hair started falling out. Apparently I thought that using a different brush would help the hair not fall out so I walked out of the bathroom, closing the door behind me with the horse still inside and walked through the living room and kitchen to the laundry room to get a pet brush out of a shelf. I kept dropping and picking up the clump of horse hair I had in my hand. Then I walked back to the bathroom and opened the door and this is where it turns into a nightmare. The horse was gone but instead my mom was laying on the floor with a towel on top of her... there was blood everywhere and she was moaning and kind of rolling around in pain. I screamed and asked what happened and she said in a voice so low and weak I could barely hear her and she was crying that she went to go to the bathroom and didn't know the horse was in there.. and it became frightened and ran out, trampling her. and she said she wasn't going to make it. I of course, was sobbing and just couldn't believe what was going on. I felt guilty because i was the one who put the horse in there and left him alone. i just couldn't believe she wouldn't be there anymore. I woke up crying. It REALLY has me upset. i've been very emotional all day, of course I'm also pregnant so I guess being emotional is normal.. anyway. PLEASE help me think this dream out and give any explanations you can think of or just your opinions.. anything.. please

Okay, first note that ANY dreams you will have while pregnant tend to be a thousand percent more freaky and distressing than normal. That being said...

My first impression was the old "everything is you in your dream" rule. SO I thought maybe this horse was a personification of the animal/primal part of yourself. Being black, it might be something linked to part of you that you don't like and have since been ignoring (hence the need for nurturing). It all depends on what the color black means to you. If you see it as signifying something bad, then the horse is part of your shadow self (the things about you you don't like). If it's strong, it may be related to strengeths within yourself that you are ignoring.

When you leave the room and go searching for the new brush, the meaning of the horse takes on a very different label...especially because you mention that you are pregnant. The horse now represents something new in your life that you have to nurture and care for (like the new baby). Your mother being hurt by this new addition could represent two things. First, the obvious anxiety over the understanding that you will have to be the mother now, and your mom will not necessarily be there for you all the time anymore (a common "I have to grow up" theme). Second, your mother may represent some parts of you that you fear may have to end with the arrival of the new baby. Either way, you are preparing to mourn the loss of someone/some part of your life in exchange for this new life coming in to the world. Don't get too upset, I've heard of much freakier dreams that were far more disturbing than this

Thanks. That does make a lot of sense. My dreams are normally very freaky as a rule, pregnant or not. I've had a lot worse than this but for some reason this one shook me up. Not sure why. Anyway, thanks so much! That does make me feel a lot better. This one was particularly disturbing for me because I couldn't find a reason for it. I've had dreams where i was tortured and murdered by my sister, but those have a clear meaning. I have abandonment issues and I only have that dream after I feel like i've been abandoned in some way by her. Anyway, thanks for helping me fix this mystery.
