I read this article today:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/ar...ard-study.html

The headline kinda jumped out at me given the GP had just prescribed me sleeping pills! But this article relates to benzodiazepines and I've been prescribed Zimovane.

Just thought I'd share out of interest....

But one study doth not a truth make.... More research is definitely needed

Yes, I knew of this. It seems even over the counter sleep meds are said to increase the chances of dementia. I have to take Tylenol PM to sleep.

Sleepwalking and other strange behaviours have been linked to sleep meds. Imovane (Zopiclone) and Ambien in particular. It's rare, but people have been found driving. One lady who is an expert in some sleep disorders was taking it and fell down stairs breaking several bones.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/story/...g-warning.html

To me the potential risk is worth the immediate results. I went for six months never getting more than 4 hours of continuous sleep. . . then became what my doctor called dysphoric mania or something along those lines. So wired, with so many racing thoughts, but overwhelmed, crying at every turn. . .

She put me on Seroquel because Imovane doesn't work anymore. I'll take my chances with what might happen later. . . later.

Thanks for sharing, I find it quite worrying - as been taking Zopiclone for anxiety and sleep, for a long time!! The Alzheimers Society indicate that this has been suggested in other study's

As if people don't have enough to worry about regarding their health eh? I guess this why so many people always use meds as a last resort because potential unknown side-effects. There was even an article about this very subject on the Psych Central Home Page. (*too lazy to go find link *)

Saying that, I had my first proper night's sleep in ages on Zimovane last night. 11:30pm to 7am. It felt amazing......

I would still rather know the facts though, then we can make an informed decision. Glad you had a good nights sleep
