Does it mean that you sleep too lightly, not actually entering REM sleep? Or is it just given as a result of inadequate memory and so you forget. I ask because I almost never dream, it's just a random blackout to me.

I think that you are dreaming and just not remembering your dreams. Dreaming and remembering your dreams varies for different people
