Hi, I've been taking melatonin to help me sleep. It does work. But now I'm just...unenergentic. Not sure if the melatonim caused that, but I was hoping getign sleep would give me some energy, and the tiredness isn't getting better only worse. Plus my tinitus is soooo muc worse.

Anybody else try the stuff?

Melatonin is what helps you to go to sleep and stay asleep. DHEA levels build up during the night to get you started for the day. Melatonin keeps you from waking up too soon as DHEA levels start to rise. I think you could consider adding DHEA, taking it when you wake up.

Melatonin doesn't tend to have a taste to it. You could crush the pills and mix them into something. Peppermint or chamomile tea, for example. That by itself could help it to kick in faster and be more completely metabolized by morning.

How long have you been sleeping? You might just feel worse before you get better, you know kind of like a hangover. Glad you found something that works.

Hi, how much are you taking? You could try lowering the dose a tiny bit at a time so that you are taking enough to send you to sleep but not so much that you feel drowsy the next day. I take melatonin and use gel caps. I open them up and take the powder on my tongue - that way I can adjust the dose by a very small amount.

DHEA is a hormone made from vegetable sources. If you can take it an hour or so before you normally get up, it would be easier to get out of bed. Taking it when you get up seems to be the next best thing. When I know I'm going to get less than four hours of sleep I take it when I go to bed; getting to sleep is usually too easy for me. DHEA is the one that is fairly flexible and easy to use.

Melatonin works best when you are in complete darkness. For that reason, I would guess, having a bright light next to your bed would help to get up in the morning.
