Hey guys, this morning I woke up crying and I'm not really sure what to make of it. I know that right before I woke up, I dreamt that I was hugging a stuffed animal and saying "I love you so much" while crying. And then I awoke to find that I was actually crying. Is that normal? Does anyone know if it means anything?

Do you have any associations to the stuffed animal? Make you think of a stuffed animal (or real animal) you've owned?

I'm guess you were probably feeling very strong emotion. Do you know if it was grief that you felt?

Hmmm. Well, obviously it was a very emotional dream. I know I used to get very attached to some of my stuffed animals.

Maybe one of our dream interpreters will be here soon to give an interpretation.

It was not a stuffed animal I've ever seen in my life. As a child, I had a few favorite stuffed animals, but this was not one of them. The only thing I can think of was maybe I was thinking about the love and acceptance I never felt from my parents but I don't really know.

And was it grief you were feeling as you cried (as opposed to crying with happiness, with fear, etc.)?

Yes it was. I remember feeling like there was this giant emptiness inside of me as if something really important was missing.

Maybe as a child you wanted to take comfort from a stuffed animal because you weren't getting care from your parents. A stuffed animal, in one sense, is a projection of your own tenderness and capacity to self-soothe. Having this dream as an adult might mean you are working with these things (your present ability to self-soothe and feel tenderness toward another being).
Thanks for this!

To take mikes words a little further...You were hugging yourself. The stuffed animal represented you.
Thanks for this!

I cry in my dreams too and wake up crying but without any real tears.

The one I remember the most was when I was a little kid and I dreamt that a man killed "the penny lady". She was dressed as the Singing Telegram girl in Clue but she handed out pennies to me and my brother so I named her and that dream "the penny lady". I don't know what to make of that, but I've never forgotten that dream or where I was when I dreamt it.

So you are not alone!
