I had the same problem with Ambien! And I am also on Haldol and Trazodone, along with Klonopin and Zyprexa (as needed) and Lamictal ( I think that's the only non-sedating one, lol! ) I also take meds for back pain. I have had a bad week of sleep.
Last Night I got 6 hours of sleep!
Today I resolved some issues, and hope I get the rest I need tonight.
I enjoy the night/early am when everyone else is sleeping, I am calm.
But if I can't sleep because of physical pain or issues on my mind then its torturous.

Since I started working again, I've gotten in a really bad habit of coming home and taking a nap. So I slept like 2 hours, now I can't get back to sleep grr guess it's my own fault, but I'm always so exhausted I couldn't keep myself awake

The same thing used to happen to me! The way I fixed that pattern is I drank a small cup of coffee (I don't really drink that much coffee anymore), around 3pm so it kept me up when I came home from work, that way I didn't go right to sleep. I was so exhausted too.

Hopefully that helps you!

You're staring at the ceiling, I'm listening to the tv and posting on PC.

My T asks me what I do all night too, I don't really have an answer for him sometimes. Its amazing, its so quiet. So peaceful, yet my mind is racing and going crazy. I am so tired yet I can't sleep.

I usually watch something on NetFlix, but my head was racing too so I turned it off because I think my thoughts were louder, ugh... And you are right, it's amazing how quiet it is. If only my head would shut up?? I hope you can sleep soon.

Some nights I start cleaning but everything is clean already, sigh...

I don't recommend staring at your ceiling. I have hit an all-time low!

I hope you can sleep soon too! I was watching episodes of Xena on Netflix recently, but if I get too involved in the episodes I will never sleep! I am up watching Fraiser right now.

This cycling is crazy. I am so damn tired and my mind is racing. My head is starting to pound. I am depressed yet I am manic. Its so weird experiencing both, like a duality.

It is quiet. I think I will try and get some rest soon.

Thanks....I just generally don't sleep much anymore at all, which is getting to be ridiculous.

I am sorry you are experiencing both at once, that sounds very stressful.

(platinumheart) being manic and depressed at the same time has to be the worst thing in the world! I had a lot of those episodes last year. I hope you feel better really really soon!
Lostkey, want to clean my place?

Hello night owls, night crawlers and vampires. I am nocturnal too. I have been working on a night shift for about 4 years. I hate it. I didn't do it by choice, it was (and still is) the only available position (because nobody else wants to do it). It is scientifically proven that being up during the night consistently is bad for your health. Just look at how many people work during the daytime. There is a reason why most people do. Sunlight naturally keeps us awake because we get melatonin. I know that my health is suffering from this work schedule but there is nothing I can do about it. I am consistently being sleep deprived, I get 4-6 hours a day tops, sometimes less. Then I end up sleeping for an entire day (yes 24 hours) on the weekend (if I don't have to work, which is rare). Also, every single person (there aren't many of us here, just 10 of us now) I work with is constantly asking each other "How much sleep did you get" "Was your sleep ok" and I'm hearing "an hour and a half", "not very much sleep" "I took a nap but couldn't get to sleep after that" often. Also, some people on the day shift (the day walkers, as they are called on third shift) that had previously worked the night shift say they had to switch to the day shift because they kept doing things like losing sleep, flipping schedules on the weekends, missing time with friends/spouses/family, the list goes on and on about various problems. Sorry for the bad news for those of you who like the night. Maybe you can deal with it better than others, but I know it does make an effect.

I am an animal, the name of my species is human, my friends here call me happiedasiy.

In the animal evolution of time , species adapt.
Some for food, some for safety from fear of predators.
Others choose what is best for their survival, for body and spirit/soul.

Native Indians lived and worked during the day to producing food and upkeep of shelters.
But it is when the day ends and the moon rises it becomes time for spiritual ritual.
A time for spirit to connect under the stars, the beauty of the constellations under the moon, spirit becomes awake. In my opinion the hours of 10pm-5am is the best time for mindful and spiritual growth.

All animals that live in the ocean are driven by the moon cycles.
Prey and predators that walk the earth stay still during the day and are awake at night, due to human beings being their predators, and they KNOW humans rest at night.

I am a night owl. But I still need an appropriate time of sleep and food.

Circadian rhythm Circadian Rhythms Fact Sheet - National Institute of General Medical Sciences
So I would say that for some individual their rhythms and influences of light may differ from the light of the sun or the light from the moon and environment.
NOT a disease or disorder just different.
Comments Please, and I think we are one of 12!

I wish I could sleep at night! It's lonely sometimes when the rest of the world is asleep.

Very interesting Happiedaisy....I think I accept the night as part of my personality now. It is in me and its a part of me.

I am up again, just watching a scary movie, and I am very content. I just drank some coffee so I might just be up again all night.

How are my fellow night owls tonight?
