The last few nights I have gotten very little sleep. I get to sleep, and then about three or four hours later, I'm awakened by my heart beating so fast, it feels like a heart attack. I usually sit up for about an hour and go back to sleep. Last night, I was awakened again with the fast heartbeat, but, I also had two numb/tingling arms and my right leg was numb. I recently had an EKG and things were fine except I have a mild tachycardia. When I sit up, I do my blood pressure and it's fine, my pulse is a bit raised. I did some reading online and a lot of people say it's anxiety. It makes sense because I've been under immense stress and am concerned about a few things going on in my life right now. Any sort of advice?

I used to get this a LOT when I was younger, though not recently.
It sounds like your heart is entirely fine (from the tests etc), and this is some form of anxiety. Do you always take your blood pressure when you wake up? How often a day do you take your blood pressure? (This sort of behavior demonstrates anxiety motivated behavior). I have no idea why it used to happen when I was asleep but if you worry about it and fear it, that is going to make it worst. The only advice I can give is to try and stabilize your sleep and reduce the stress in your life. |

You are the 4th person to tell me it sounds like anxiety. Hmm, guess that must be what it is, lol. I do have immense stress right now and am dealing with quite a few issues. My doctor gave me Trazadone a few months ago and I didn't want to try it cuz of the side effects, but, I think I will use it tonight and hopefully, get some sleep.

I started Vistaril for anxiety. It appears to have very few side effects, a low abuse/addiction profile. It sounds safer than other anti-anxiety pills. I've never really taken Xanax or Klonopin for long periods of time because they made me feel loopy. Trazadone didn't work for me and IDK why but it triggered mania and insomnia. I was taking it to help me sleep. Some people complain of hallucinations on it so be careful.
