I need some help 8nterpreting my six year old daughters dream last night.
Let me start though by saying we monitor everything she watches on tv and all video games are specified for kids her age. We don't have cable so she doesn't watch scary commercials and all adult movies are only played after she is sleeping so she isn't exposed to violence. Now my daughter woke up crying last night asking for me and said she had a nightmare. When I went in her room I asked what it was about and she said "I was playing with buttons" (her kitten) "and I started pulling all her teeth out" and she got upset again thinking about it. I responded by assuring it was just a nightmare and asked "do you want to hurt buttons?" And when she said no I told her that that's how she knows it was just a bad dream. She asked me to stay in the room with her so I rubbed her back until she fell asleep. A few hours later she awoke again not aaying she had a nightmare but was scared of the shadows from thw trees, a dark spot on her ceiling, etc. I assured her that she was safe and she went back to bed. I don't like seeing her wake up acared and want to help her solve this so these dreams don't cintinue. Any ideas on the meaning?

I would say there is nothing to it. When I was very little I had some creepy, crazy dreams and told my mother about them. Nothing came of it and as I got older they went away. I will not say what they were as they may be "triggers" for some here but they were bad. Either way as children our minds are still growing and making sense of the world. Dark dreams don't mean anything. Actions however are a whole different matter.

Out of curiosity, has your daughter lost any teeth recently?
I can't remember exactly what age my baby teeth were falling out, but I do remember the loose teeth I'd push with my tongue, or talk of tying a tooth to the doorway, and cartoons like Looney Tunes having jokes about toothaches or teeth being pulled. When the teeth finally would fall out it would sometimes be gross looking. If she's lost any teeth recently, perhaps the dream was a reflection of her own fears or shock about that? |

The kitten represents a part of her self. In the dream she is pulling her own teeth out. This could mean she is maturing or that she does not want to bite someone. She may be feeling helpless. Be supportive, and be emotionally present for her.
